What is the tolerance in these Zener diodes? 5%, 10%?

All that I have used from the asortment have been within 2%

I’m seeing major voltage drop across the zener diodes. for my application i’m trying to put 12v through a 9.1v zener and i only get 3.45 volts out

You generally want to use a voltage regulator to bring the voltage down and then use a Zener diode at its output to stabilize the voltage output, not use the Zener itself as a voltage regulator. You would have to make sure the current through the diode does not pass around 110ma if you wanted to use it as a voltage regulator, since 1W/9.1V=.11A approximately, going over which would and likely did damage to it.

12 volts - 9 volts equals somewhere around 3 volts. I was under the impression the 9 volt zener diode would subtract 9 volts from your total voltage. I could be totally wrong.

is there any way we could get a datasheet? I am currently trying to use the On-Semi datasheet but I would feel more confident with the manufacturer's

The OnSemi datasheet will be good as these are generic labeled units.
