Buff willow wicker chest hamper available in two sizes 24" and 28", made from full buff willow with rope handles, leather fastenings and hinges. These buff willow wicker baskets have wooden upright posts in the four corners as part of the frame, which makes the basket very sturdy. So much so, that if you are short of floor space you can stand these baskets on top of each other for a great storage solution. Mix and match these rope handled buff willow wicker chest hamper baskets with our range of storage baskets, for a unified look in any room of your home, office or business. The leather and buckle fastenings stop little fingers from trying to lift the lid and get inside the basket. Use as a toy box, and hide everything away when the toddlers have gone to bed. Willow baskets are very versatile. These are much hardier than many materials used for baskets, and can be used outside as they will survive in all weathers. Usually a stronger weave, they are very sturdy and solid. Grown in fields and by river banks as willow, the branches are stripped of their outer layer and usually treated before weaving. The end product is well suited to carrying weight although the baskets themselves are lightweight. Buff Willow is cropped mainly in November, but sometimes not until December. It is the most popular and is obtained by boiling the willows to release the natural colourant tannin from the bark into the wood. The bark is then stripped from the willow revealing the characteristic golden colour.
