Some toasters advertise this feature.** A: No, it doesn't toast on one side only when using the bagel setting. Both sides are toasted but in "bagel" setting, one side toasts lighter. But I found this to be the case whether or not "bagel" setting is used. One side toasts lighter even without using the bagel setting. Had I known that this toaster doesn't have a true bagel setting (i.e., toasts on one side only), I probably would not have purchased this toaster. But I kept it and it's really a nice toaster. To keep one side of my bagel fairly "toast-free", I just turn the darkness dial down to 1 or 2 level and it works fine. **Q: how long is the slot? how deep?** A: It is 6 inches long .. 6 inches deep and 1 1/2 inches wide. Sandwich slices have no problem fitting in.
