What are these for a project and they worked well and ended up using it to power 45 W LEDs and a strobe pattern and worked as intended

Good TIP120. These are first quality parts. They work great in my circuit. I am using them to amplify a zener diode to make a 60 watt zener.

The difference is that the L series MOSFET's gate opens much "wider" than the "N", staring above 5 volts Vgs. Think of it as a "turbo". At Vgs 7-9 V, it can pass a lot more current Vds (on) and that's a blessing for my electric-control application! A beauty!
