The latter dominates, a song that Bette Midler also sang in the early days, but Luther gets the real poignancy better and sounds less sentimental. The great virtue of his voice is perhaps to elevate material that can sound a bit cheap, by virtue, most probably, of a belief in the songs and also a distinctive voice that in itself has a certain emotional reserve. Several of the tracks are successful mid-tempo numbers, including a brilliant duet with Dionne Warwick, How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye. Busy Body and I'll Let You Slide are both effective, and have slightly different takes on infidelity, one gently moralising and the other turning a blind eye (inasmuch as the words actually make sense, but there is the feeling of infidelity which is clearly spelt out in the first verse, where she is watching TV with another guy. Later developments seem to contradict this ... perhaps it's his hopes?). The dance tracks have a lot of verve in the Marcus Miller style - his hand in the production gives a very 80s sound that has a real 'get up and dance' feel, if only they were played in places where you could. Perhaps not the absolute zenith of disco, but pretty good even so ... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Luther Vandross Brilliant Music *by P***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 July 2016* Parcel arrived very quickly before the expected delivery date, was very pleased. The only slight problem was that the packaging was already opened but cello taped. Luckily the CD's sealed wrapping was not opened; so I decided to keep it. Music sounds crystal clear. I've always enjoyed Luther Vandross music, he could sing anything and it would always sound brilliant. Enjoyed every single track on the CD.
