**Q: How securely do the phillips bits fit into JIS cross-head screws?**
A: The Phillips bits fit securely with little to no play.

**Q: If the bits are 5/8” tall why is the case so tall? Is there anything in the top half?**
A: The bits are 5/8" tall.  The case is 2-3/8" thick and the lid alone is 1-1/8" thick with nothing in it.  I don't know  why it is so thick but it is a really nice case.  Hope this helps.
