Survival Fire Starter, 4 Inch Ferro Rod, Flint Fire Starters

We bought two of these! First one I bought just to try out. It was inexpensive and I thought, "why not?" My four year old LOVED it for his birthday! It was easy for him to figure out the concept. It is easy to get sparks going with a good flick! It does take a little focus and fine motor skills. I bought another one for my 6 year old. These outdoor boys of mine LOVE using them.

Easy to use, fast sparks of a good length that will definitely start a fire going. I personally wanted something like would be used in the Game of Thrones, like that one scene when they take that dead dude to kings landing and the onion knight lights up that torch. Something sturdy. Anyway, what arrived looks like a pencil of some kind on a lanyard but it works. Do we really need it? In an age of disposable lighters, propane tanks, stoves, grills, griddles and fire pits, no we do not need it. But we could maybe need it and that's good enough for me. Being my typical neurotic self, I secretly said ok, let me buy a dozen more but I stopped myself. If you have no self control (my own is borderline at best) feel free to get a couple dozen boxes. You never know, winter can come to Florida or hey a horde of zombies could spring up from eating tainted McRibs. You never know. It has a good survival value to it, I suppose. But honestly, it was a thing to get just for fun. Adult fun, I definitely would not let minors or pyros near this. Recommend. 👍✅

Great price for a fully functional ferro rod. Too bad the folks giving one star ratings because they can’t get it to work don’t know they have to scrape the coating off to get sparks to fly! The including metal striker has a sharp edge, so it does its job well. 4 stars because the attached whistle is terrible - I tossed it immediately.

Great camping item

It does what it needs and the sparks light flammable objects. It’s a primitive fire starting tool - what more can you realistically expect

I purchased 20 of these fire starters for a summer youth camp in June 2026. I gave each teenager their own fire starter and they had to learn to start a fire without matches. These fire starters were the hit of the camp! Not only did each group successfully start a fire without matches (with no training) but the boys used these starters all week long. We were very impressed!

I wouldn't go camping or set up a go-bag without this fire starter. It works perfectly. Well worth the cost.
