I did have to leave a small spot unzipped so air could escape but to me that just proves they are airtight and will prevent any leaks inside or out.... We have down pillows and since I bought these I am not cleaning down from the bed.... They don't make noise when we bunch up our pillows, they wash beautifully without shrinking, They are superior for the price and that is a huge plus! I put pillow cases over them but they are soft enough alone that I wouldn't have to do that... They are softer than cheap sheets. They don't say cooling but I don't tolerate heat when sleeping and I have not had a problem with the protectors...
