This version is based mostly on the v3, but it's still so incredibly nostalgic! I collect Tamagotchis on and off, and love that I get to add this one to my collection. It's super cute and works great! Absolutely 100% recommend! By the way, I saw some reviews complaining about not being able to turn off the sound or pause the Tamagotchi. You definitely can turn off the sound and there's a way to temporarily pause. So, if you press the A and C buttons at the same time together on the main screen, it should pop up and ask if you want the sound on or off. While the pause option is not as cut and dry, you technically can pause, albeit it can be quite annoying sometimes. If you hit B, you will see the time screen. Pressing A and C together while the time screen is up should let you set the time. While the time set menu is active, your Tamagotchi will not progress and is essentially, "paused." But the annoying part is, you have to re-set the time to unpause. They do end up giving you an actual pause function in the v4, which is great because you don't have to re-set the time anymore. However, the battery included in the box didn't last long at all. I switched to Energizer batteries and they work perfectly with much better durability.
