A #1 bestseller on The New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times! From the celebrated author of The Nightingale and The Four Winds comes Kristin Hannah''s T he Women ―at once an intimate portrait of coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic tale of a nation divided. Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is over-whelmed by the chaos and destruction of war. Each day is a gamble of life and death, hope and betrayal; friendships run deep and can be shattered in an instant. In war, she meets―and becomes one of―the lucky, the brave, the broken, and the lost. But war is just the beginning for Frankie and her veteran friends. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and to a country that wants to forget Vietnam. The Women is the story of one woman gone to war, but it shines a light on all women who put themselves in harm’s way and whose sacrifice and commitment to their country has too often been forgotten. A novel about deep friendships and bold patriotism, The Women is a richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose idealism and courage under fire will come to define an era. Review: Epic, emotional and inspiring - Historic fiction = Kristan Hannah. This was such a powerful story and should be read by everyone. You will go through full range of emotions in this book. I did not know anything about Vietnam war but this story taught me a lot about it. This was my second book of her after The Great Alone(1st one). I’ll definitely get more of her books. How can you stay this good, creative and inspiring? Review: Inspiring and Encouraging - Beautifully written by Kristin Hannah. The novel gave me an extraordinary experience and kept me engrossed for days. I read it in one go. The story was beautiful and narrative was effectual in portraying the crucial role the nurses played in 'Nam. Liked the part when protagonist's father finally recognised her service and was proud for her. It made me read 'The Four Winds' because I wanted to read more works of Kristin Hannah after this.

An inspiring tale!
Frankie McGrath a twenty years old nursing student's life is changed when she hears, women can be heroes. Set in the 1960's during the Vietnam War, without much thought she decides to follow her brother's footsteps into the Army to serve the nation as a nurse. Coming from a conservative family living in luxury in South California, the horrors of war season her into a person she never imagined herself to be. However, it is after her return home from the war that she discovers the prejudices, trauma and trials of being a woman who served the nation. A heartwarming tale so intricately held together with the lives of three women their friendship, love and family. The storytelling is seamless and emotions are raw and real to the core. Even though it is based on the war, I think there is so much to relate to our lives. I didn't find one dull moment in this narration. The war scenes come alive and is once again so relatable to the ongoing wars in our times. The character arc of Frankie and her two friends was well executed. The plight of Frankie's parents the distress and gap in understanding made my heart melt for them. Inspite of it all they stood with her till the end was incredibly warm. All in all I would recommend this book to all those who enjoy a good historical fiction unfold and wrap up.

Miraculous
I have goosebumps. Feels so personal and true even though I wasn’t in the war. I guess the war that’s mentioned is just satirical and denotes the war each and every woman fights within their groups across the world.

Eye Opening!
This book is a very realistic deep-dive into the lives of army personnel and what goes on at war. It depicts the good, bad and ugly in detail. While some parts were difficult to read - it was very educative and eye opening.

brilliant, moving and eye opening
An incredible story, brilliantly told. Kristin tells this story as though actually there and makes such a moving, sad, emotional impact, the telling of a story i was little aware of, even though a child in those years. This was a great bookclub choice, with many facets to discuss; love, infidelity, mortality, morality, addiction, parental disappointment, expectation and joy and happiness in the face of the everyday horrors of reality. You will fall in and out of love with these characters and understand every perspective.

Emotional
I admit I'm not an emotional reader. It takes a lot me make me shed tears while reading, but the ending of this book was surprisinly emotional for me. I love reading historical novels, but I knew little about the Vietnam War and its outcomes to the soldiers and nurses who ventured in there in service. A really good book that like many other that I've been reading, show the forgotten role of women in wars that marked a whole generation.

What a great book
I finished The Women by Kristin Hannah with tears in my eyes. From about halfway through the book until the very end, I found myself constantly emotional. It is one of those stories that slowly pulls you in and then refuses to let go. The novel follows Frankie McGrath, a young woman who volunteers as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Through her story, the reader sees not only the brutality of war but also the emotional scars that follow soldiers long after they return home. What struck me most is how the book shines a light on the often forgotten role of women in the war. Their courage, trauma, and sacrifices are portrayed with honesty and depth. Kristin Hannah’s writing is very immersive. She manages to balance historical detail with deeply personal storytelling, which makes the characters feel real and relatable. The friendships Frankie builds, the challenges she faces, and the struggles she experiences after returning home are described in a way that feels authentic and heartbreaking. Overall, The Women is a beautifully written and deeply moving novel. It is emotional, sometimes painful to read, but ultimately very powerful. I’m really glad I read it, even though it left me crying for a good part of the story.
