When David Smallbone's successful music company collapses, he moves his family from Australia to the United States in search of a brighter future. Based on the remarkable true story, with nothing more than their six children, suitcases, and their love of music, David (for KING + COUNTRY's Joel Smallbone) and his pregnant wife Helen (Daisy Betts) set out to rebuild their lives from the ground up.? Review: Inspiring film about family and faith - What a wonderful, inspiring, faith-filled, miraculous story! This TRUE STORY of the Smallbone family's adventures and challenges was delightful from start to finish, and I've already watched it multiple times in just a few days! I was particularly enchanted with wife and mum, Helen, who is the truest hero of this story. Her belief in and support of her husband's dreams is inspiring. Her loyalty to him among so many others who let him down is remarkable. And her commitment to keep going even when it all feels like it's falling apart is tremendous. Not to mention her positivity and endless efforts to encourage and make everything fun for the kids. She is a true testament to the power of a visionary woman of faith. I LOVED the major themes of the movie: the power of family, the power of prayer, the power of looking for God in our lives, and the power of love. This one is my new favorite! Thank you so much for this Review: A Heartfelt Tribute: For King & Country's Unsung Hero - The movie "Unsung Hero" by For King & Country was an incredible experience that showcased the amazing acting and storytelling. Wonderful movie!
Great movie and even better knowing it was a true story. Loved seeing how God brought them to America. I love the music of For King and Country so enjoyed seeing how this family came from Australia to America and now this group shares the good news of Jesus Christ all around the world.

Don't Miss this Outstanding Faith Based Film!
I'm always wary when it comes to faith-based films. For too long, most movies in this genre suffered from the curse of pretty terrible acting; mediocre plot writing; and poor production values. They were strictly straight to DVD duds, which treated the Christian faith and discipleship in overly simplistic terms. A major problem of these films was that the characters' belief often wasn't believable, and the problems encountered by the characters were not treated realistically. "Unsung Hero" is refreshingly different. Based on the book of the same title, this movie revolves around the experiences of the Smallbone family as they come to the USA (Nashville, TN) in order to give the father, a former tour manager in Australia, an opportunity to begin a new job after a devastating economic downturn and a series of broken business promises. Unfortunately, the new job falls through and the large family is left destitute in a new country. The film doesn't try to present all the challenges this family faced as ones easily cured. Instead, it deals more subtly with how faith, particularly the Christian faith, forms our attitudes when undergoing difficult, even dark, times. The family's problems are real, devastating, and disheartening, especially for Mr Smallbone, who undergoes a period of depression and honest self-doubt in the face of mounting failures and loss. This was a man who was proud of his accomplishments. He interacted with some of the best in the Christian pop music genre of the 70s. So he is genuinely shocked as everything crumbles around him; and as a result, he eventually plunges into anger and depression. Personal loss, financial ruin, and a tarnished reputation are hard things for anyone to bear, even Christians. Yet, as Mr. Smallbone goes through this hardship, he discovers a greater reality on the other side as he matures not only as a man, but also in his Christian faith, and in his love for his own family. Mrs. Smallbone, the unsung hero, while struggling with a new culture (while pregnant) and the hardships of going from an affluent lifestyle to a place of absolute poverty, is presented as the rock for both her children and her husband. Yet her optimism never turns cloyingly saccharin. Her faith is unshakable and she guides her children and her husband through all the challenges they encounter by her own prayerful example and her fierce determination and tenacity. She is a woman of great courage whose undying love for her husband and family are palpable. The film is nicely balanced with much humor to off-set the more intense scenes. The child actors are perfectly amazing, especially the one portraying Rebecca St James. She actually resembles the singer as well. It's also fun to see a younger version of Joel and Luke Smallbone of "For King and Country." Joel does a great job of portraying his father in the film. So bottom line: See this excellent faith-based movie and be inspired by this wonderful family! The film is appropriate for mature upper elementary age children, 5th grade on up. There are a couple of intense scenes dealing with Mr. Smallbone's depression and anger. Parents of mature upper elementary age children might need to explain depression to their children and why Mr Smallbone is depressed in the context of the film. A pregnancy (w/ delivery) is shown and complications inferred; nothing graphic is seen at all, however. There's no profanity, nor other offensive content.

What an Incredible Movie!
I watched the official trailer of this movie and thought it looked pretty good, but the movie was much better than the trailer! My family really likes the group King+Country and we also like the lead singers sister, Rebecca St. James, so we very interested to see how their family ended up moving to the US from Australia. However, you don't really need to know much about this group to be able to appreciate the movie. There were so many moments throughout this movie that were so moving. It brought us to tears several times because of some of the difficult circumstances that they faced many times. My husband and I had faced many similar moments in our own lives together, but not to the degree that they had to endure. The moments felt real throughout the movie, and they didn't hide the times when individuals in the family had a regrettable moment. There were a few times when you just cringed at some of the bad decisions or emotional outbursts because you knew it was a bad moment for that person. After watching the movie I can see why King+Country likes to help others out whenever they can, whether that be through a collaboration with other singers, or in some sort of personal way. Without spoiling the movie for the reader, I will leave my statement at that. It will really challenge you to look deep within your own life to check to see if there might be some areas that you might want to address or take a second look at. We weren't going to buy this movie at first because I felt it was a little expensive and I was going to wait for it to go on sale. Let me just say, I am really glad that we didn't wait! I'm also really glad that King+Country made this movie because it was such a reminder that there is always someone that has it worse than you. I highly recommend it, but be sure to have some tissues close by!

Buy this movie
This is a very good, family friendly movie! I would buy it again. Though it has a message about faith, it is not heavy handed or preachy. Based upon a true story.

Una película conmovedora sobre el esfuerzo y la unión familiar que sirve de antecedente para conocer de dónde viene el dueto "For king and Country". Definitivamente imperdible. Llegando en tiempo y forma, la súper recomiendo.

It's an awesome movie but then anything For King and Country is always top-notch in my books. I am in a wheelchair so getting to go to a movie in a theatre is not something that happens to me so when I saw it coming out on DVD I jumped at it. So glad I was able to get it through Amazon. Now can watch over and over.

This movie is deeply inspirational about a family that has suffered through hardship that would make most of us want to give up and quit. The faith of the Smallbone family is contagious and makes one feel that if they could get through hell and back, so can we. Totally a feel good and uplifting movie. <3 Highly, highly recommend.

Get ready to ball your eyes our and to be challenged to live a life of faith, paints the father in a very bad light and mom as a hero. But it's life and love and faith and forgiveness and miracles. Great job.
