It makes the two board combo thinner since there are only low profile sockets between the boards and not the typical stacking headers. The IMU has great potential if you want to implement a virtual joystick or even just change between portrait and landscape views based on how you're holding the display. It plugs directly into the Giga R1, there are no cables. The touch screen works quite well and, due to the voluptuous number of I/O pins on the R1, it doesn't leave you wanting. When attached, the display does block the I/O pin headers somewhat and I do find myself exercising care when attaching the display to the R1 because it's a bit difficult to be confident I've got it lined up correctly.
