Better than the famous LitterRobot!!!
I have had the LitterRobot3 from whisker for the last three years, that litterbox was great at first, but everything you had to do for maintenance was ridiculous and extremely time consuming, over the last year, it started throwing error codes(over torque codes) almost every other time it was used, I researched and found that apparently that was common and the reviews that mention it are often hidden...I was so fed up constantly having to troubleshoot and fix the error codes on top of taking it completely apart once a month to clean all the pieces(a lot of pieces and screws.. Frustrating) That brought me to researching other litterboxes to replace it with, there was no way I was going to spend another $700+ for a litterbox that let's you down before it pays for itself.... That brought me to this Litterbox, it caught my attention because I saw it was on sale(even if it wasn't on sale it's still less than half the price of that LitterRobot3), I read all the reviews here on Amazon, plus others on other review sites, at first I was skeptical, but I took the leap and bought it while it was on sale, and I'll tell you right now I'm glad I did! It was extremely easy to set up, it took me less than 10 minutes, my kitties took to it immediately, it is extremely quiet when it cycles, and finishes cycling in less than 30 seconds!, the app is awesome and recognizes my cats when they use it(after I added them into the app and binded them like the directions said) even my picky kitty will use it, she would refuse to poo in the LitterRobot3 which always meant extra mess and extra litterbox... She hasn't used the "extra" litterbox all week and has pood in this litterbox. I have only had this litterbox a week and already impressed with it! There's no smell, the deodorizer block it came with does it's job and does it well. I have 8 kitties and I foster babies throughout the year! So this is great for multiple cat households, I plan on buying another one of these! It took less than a minute to take it apart to clean it, quick and simple. I was able to wash it and put it back together in less than ten minutes, which made me extremely happy. The LitterRobot3 always took me 45 minutes+ to take apart, clean, dry, and put back together. The app took a day to figure out and get use to, but I'm my opinion that's normal with any new app! And I love that it was easy to figure out and the litterbox and app recognizes what kitty is using it! If you're looking for a great affordable litterbox that won't break the bank, is quiet, and doesn't smell, this is it!!!!

Great Job CatLink!! 👏 Impressive functionality, simple to use and maintain ❤️
I’ve been a Litter‑Robot 4 owner since August 2022, back when it had just hit the market. Those early days came with plenty of growing pains — firmware hiccups, hardware tweaks, part replacements — before it finally settled into a stable, reliable machine over the last 3 years. Even so, I’m always scouting for alternatives: a backup automatic litter box, a potential replacement should my LR‑4 ever fail, or simply something more open and easier to clean. Over time, I’ve tested several open‑style automatic litter boxes, from well‑known brands to obscure ones. That brings me to the CatLink Open‑X, which I received in late January 2026. Here are my impressions so far (with more updates to come as I continue using it). ~ Packaging & Presentation ~ The CatLink Open‑X arrives impressively packaged. Everything is secure, well‑protected from the often brute-handling of the delivery carrier, and neatly organized — no digging around or guessing where parts are. Both the Quick Start Guide and the full manual are detailed, clear, and easy to follow. ~ Assembly ~ Assembly could not be any simpler. No tools, no fuss, no engineering degree required. If you can put together the most basic LEGO set, you’re already overqualified. The few components that aren’t pre‑assembled snap together quickly and intuitively. ~ App Wi‑Fi Connectivity, Features & User Experience ~ Setting up the Open‑X in the CatLink app and connecting it to Wi‑Fi was straightforward for me — not quite as effortless as assembling the unit, but far from difficult. I did notice that the CatLink app has some low ratings in the Apple App Store, mostly tied to WiFi connectivity issues. With that in mind, here are two tips that made my setup smoother: 1. Avoid special characters in your Wi‑Fi name (SSID). The manual mentions this, and while my network SSID did include a dash (“‑”) without causing problems, more complex characters may interfere. 2. Temporarily disable Access Control on your router. This was the key for me. Simply setting the router to “allow new devices” wasn’t enough — I had to fully disable Access Control during setup. Once connected and updated, I re‑enabled it with no issues. This isn’t unique to CatLink; I’ve seen the same behavior with other iOT devices such as robot vacuums. So before blaming the app or the litter box, double‑check your router’s security settings — I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. For the most part, the app is clean, intuitive, and functional. It logs usage activity — helpful for monitoring your cat’s health — and sends notifications for cycles, errors, and waste‑bin reminders. You can also: * Check real‑time status * Trigger a cleaning cycle remotely * Adjust cleaning delay * Switch between manual and automatic modes * Change weight units * Rename the device * View usage statistics Additional settings include Kitten Protection Mode, manual‑only mode for acclimating cats, and a “soft stool burial” option that covers softer waste with litter before cycling to prevent smearing. The AI Waste Analysis Health Monitor is surprisingly accurate! I wasn't expecting this and it took a little over a week for it to 'learn' my cats' habits but once it did, it has been accurately detecting waste type like magic! Loving this thing so far! * I did notice a few leftover Chinese characters when deleting activity log entries (like Auto-clean, etc.), but the confirmation prompts revert to English. Also, some of the settings descriptions show a bit of a language barrier (see pics). These are tiny cosmetic issues that do not affect functionality and will hopefully be patched in a future app update. ~ Support ~ Support is responsive to questions, etc. I emailed CatLink with questions about warranty coverage and replacement parts. They replied the next morning (despite the time zone difference), so response time seems solid. HOWEVER, they WILL require patience as further contacts with support when I did have a specific simple issue have proven to be frustrating due to miscommunications/language barriers and shipping times from China should parts need to be sent. ~ Performance & Daily Use ~ The CatLink Open‑X performs exactly as advertised — and does it exceptionally well. The drum/globe is a good size, plenty of room for our 13.9 lb. part-Maine Coon, with room to grow. Cleaning, leveling, and emptying cycles are smooth and whisper‑quiet. The loudest sound you’ll hear is the litter shifting and shifting when cycling. With seals where needed and the use of Ozone-Based Odor Elimination, odor control is much better than others I've used/tested. A definite advantage! Being an open-top, this seems to be more appealing to cats. Having set this up side-by-side next to our 3+ year old LR-4, after just a day and a half, our cats are consistently choosing the CatLink over their LR-4. ~ Build Quality ~ Build quality is impressive for the price. Felt seals, infrared sensors inside the globe, and a generous array of safety features put it ahead of many similarly priced (and even more expensive) competitors. In many ways, it feels like an open‑air counterpart to the Litter‑Robot 4. ~ Longevity ~ It’s still too early to judge long‑term durability, but I’ll revisit this review after a few months or more of continued use. ~ Price/Value ~ Compared to others with similar features, this is an amazing value. I can actually buy 3-4 of these for the price of my original automatic litter box!

i would buy again
i have had this litter box for a month and have 2 cats. First cat (11lbs) jumped right in with no hesitation. My other cat is under 1 year old (8lbs) and was scared at first but intrigued, it took him a few days to try it out. I am pretty happy with it. The price is a fraction of the competitors and gets the job done. Is it perfect...no. There are occasions were the clump didn't fall right away and it ended up getting caught in the base and smeared. Not ideal but the top part comes off really easy and you can wipe it up. This litter box is not a set it and forget it but it has made my laundry room smell less like a litter box and I don't have to worry about scooping everyday. I check it occasionally and fill the litter probably every other day to keep it at the correct level and I empty the bottom trash compartment every weekend. It disconnected from the wifi once and I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then it connected back up on its own. The litter box still works if not on wifi but you will not get data on what cat used it and for how long, if that matters to you. If you are crazy obsessed with every thing being perfectly clean all the time then I would not say this is for you, there are some messes that you will occasionally have to clean up. If you want to have absolutely zero maintenance then I also would advise you not to purchase this. But if you are looking for a decently priced automatic litter box that takes away every day scooping then this is perfect!

Absolutely love it
I’ve had this litter box for over a month now and I absolutely love it. I picked it after seeing a review on YouTube and decided to go with it as it was the budget pick over similar models and I wanted an open litter box to help my cat transfer from his Petsafe scoop free box. Set up: Assembly of the litter box was extremely easy and took less than five mins. However, set up to the app took a second. DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING but letters in your WiFi name or password. It simply wont show up. We ended up renaming our WiFi to fix this problem and luckily due to reading reviews beforehand I could quickly figure out this was my problem. Size: It is a good size litter box and similar overall footprint to my old scoopfree. Transition: I’m lucky to have a pretty easy going cat as far as getting him adapted to different litters and boxes, I think it did help that before the scoop free and crystal litter he had used regular clumping so he had no issues with transitioning back to clumping for the OpenX. I ended up just putting him in it after I was done setting up and showing him the clean cycle and he was good to go. I had left his other box set up next to it for about a week after setting up the OpenX but he immediately took to the OpenX. However, how the transition period looks like is more up to the individual cat. Cleaning/odor control: I did end up switching to the other grate offered as the one that comes with the litter box wasn’t getting all of the little bits in the clean cycle, however, I don’t see a huge difference where I feel like you would need to. I think the litter box stays pretty clean for my boy, however, due to having the dark grey litter box the clay litter does leave marks from cycling. As long as the drawer is closed, I don’t notice any odors and if you open the drawer I do recommend using the odor cubes/continuing to replace them after the initial as it does stink very badly if gone to long between replacement. I have changed out the bag every week and haven’t had any issues with that except for making sure the bag is properly aligned which fixing is just adjusting and reclosing the drawer. I have deep cleaned it twice with disinfectant and it disassembles easily and quickly for the deep cleans. The biggest thing I do recommend for this is getting another mat that goes under the litter to swap them out between deep clean cycles. Being waterproof they don’t like to dry and I will eventually get one so I feel like I can get it even cleaner. Overall it is extremely worth the money and good for cats that prefer an extremely clean litter box and pet parents who don’t want to scoop a box everyday.

Best box I've had! Get this one!!
I tried to talk myself into the latest litterobot to replace my existing, but that price tag was through the roof. Decided to give this one a whirl and am thoroughly pleased I did! I've tried so many automated cat boxes, but this one is, so far, the best I've owned. It really does reduce odor -- though their deodorizing block helps neutralize much of the smell -- but the seal is significantly better than any other automated box I've tried. Plus, it's better at not breaking up the clumps, releasing odor, since they only fall once (some machines I have keep the waste in the part that rotates -- bad idea). It's pretty easy to keep clean, though slightly more complex than some. Accessing it to clean though is much easier than most automated boxes. So, a little more to do but easier to get to. It's really quiet -- only the first couple of clumps into an empty bin make much noise; the machine itself is pretty quiet. My biggest complaint is really pretty minor: the included bags are a bit too big for the bin size, which means they often move out of place as you're closing the litter drawer. The sensor will complain the bag is wrong, so it gets fixed before there's an accident, but it's annoying. Something that was a bit snugger would be appreciated, or a better way to affix the bag to the top. The only other issue I have with it is the height. My cats keep leaping out of it instead of walking down a ramp, which leads to cat litter caught in their paws exploding out everywhere compared to lower boxes. But all in all, I can deal with that easily.

Done with fancy litter boxes - CATLINK is the best!
Excellent!! I ordered 4 of these dark grey ones based on reviews. I have 6 cats and 2 kittens. Replaced my 4 Cumrige boxes (circular) that are much larger, they were awful, pee sticking to the liner, had to remove the top every time to add litter or to clean. Etc- Why did I spend over $320 on them each?! Catlink is the fraction of the price, and it looks so pretty and it’s made of heavy durable plastic. Grey or white, it looks classy. Great value! I gave one to my son. I have zero issues with Catlink. It’s large(chatGPT said its touch smaller than Cumrige -not true, my b/w fat cat of 14# loves it lol ! My cats are 7-14 pounds! See ear cotton swab for comparison. Here you go: It’s super easy to assemble: you add 4 legs, add screen that catches poo(face it towards you so you’re looking at the yellow label, wiggle it a bit into a t-hole), add deodorizer (comes with) if you want, plug it in first let it balance out, add litter. Download app, create account, hit + to add device or wait on app to find it via Bluetooth. Make sure WiFi signal on the litter box is blinking (hold it down 3s if it’s not). IF trouble connecting: On phone - turn on Bluetooth, put WiFi on 2.5 (not 5G), go into WiFi that you use at home (settings) and disable ‘turn off tracking’ and disable ‘private WiFi’ for the time being(you can put it back after you set up the cat litter box), so the app can add your WiFi to the litter box. If you’re still having trouble, bring litter box to your router and try again. If still no connection - unplug for 5 min, wait, try above steps. Make sure you 2.5 and 5G are named different names (per ChatGpt) like home1 and Home5G. Add litter and done. Odor control is great because the thing actually works! I had my new litter box set on manual 4x/day till my cats got used to it( or if you’re new to this). Day4 - we are on full auto clean. My cats have been used to the other auto litter box so it was easy but I have a new kitten. I mixed in little of old litter, and left my regular litter box near the new one. It’s so esy to clean. Good luck. Ps. Customer service is excellent! Emailed me right away but I already had WiFi working on 2nd try. ALSO, if you have too much killer and it’s over the line, the box will be stuck in closed position. You have to remove some of the litter. Make sure you fill it to the line in the liner. IF it’s stuck in closed - unplug for a bit, plug it in and then remove litter till you see the line. This is the only thing that bugs me because I like to overfill it all my boxes. my cats like to dig. Happy pooping :D

Best option for Open top and self cleaning along with A+ Customer Service
I was hesitant on getting any auto cleaning litter box. After alot of time spent looking at all the different models I decided to give Catling Open-X a try. I have had the litter box for two months now. One of our cats took to it after about a week. Initally I was pleased with how the box performed and sent notifications, after a little while I was having an issue with the notifications and reached out to the Catlink company. I am glad to report the customer service has been exceptional. I communicated with Jen and after emails and a phone call my issue was escalated. The issue was addressed and Jen followed up with timely communication. The litter box is a little tall for my cat but I built some steps and the box is easily acceptable. The height is needed for the unit to operate and hold the trash bin. I would recomend the Catlink Open-X for a cat that is used to an open top litter box. I would also recomend the CATLINK company as their customer service for me was exceptional. The easy to clean trash bin is better then manually scooping a litter box anyday. The trash bin holds a good amount and for the one cat, easily 10-15 days between changing the bag. The assembly is pretty simple and the quick start guide is easy to follow. I had watched a video of how to use the app before my purchase, and there were no surprises when I started the app. I can hear the Open-X clean but it is not too loud, it is the sound of the litter shifting, and a small motor turning the pod. I work about 10 ft from the box and the sound is not bothersome.

Amazon return horror story with happy ending?
The first one I ordered did not work, the buttons were non-responsive. I couldn’t get support through Amazon or Catlink and ended up returning the product despite wanting to exchange it. It took SIX weeks for a refund, even though my item arrived at an Amazon warehouse within a week (according to their own tracking). I talked with customer service no less than once each week during this time. Each time they told me the previous representative was incorrect about the refund date, which I found oddly suspicious that every single one would have been incorrect. Somehow I eventually got through to a manager who refunded me the same day we spoke. After the refund cleared my bank I was able to purchase a new litter box, but by this point I was hesitant to do so. The only reason I gave it another chance was because I had also spent $80+ on the step to the litter box and it was now too late to return it. I had already spent three weeks researching robot litter boxes before settling on this one, and figured it was worth another chance. I am nervous about the warranty though, since I couldn’t get a response from Catlink with the first defective purchase. The new litter box arrived today and thankfully everything seems to work. It connected to the wifi, the buttons all work, and this litter box is super quiet. The first one was very noisy when it did its initial cycle upon plugging it in. I did notice on the first cycle after filling with Dr. Elsey’s litter that a LOT was wasted when I had filled it to the max line. In the future I’m going to under fill it. UPDATE: I set the litterbox up on Monday afternoon around 3 PM but it wasn’t used until around 8 PM. On Thursday around 5:30 AM I got an alert that the waste chamber was full. My two cats had used it a total of 12 times during this 2ish day period, according to the app. When opening the waste chamber, it was slightly more than half full but because of the way the waste falls, it will probably always trigger as full when it isn’t yet full. 2ND UPDATE: After one week of owning this machine, the waste bag has needed replaced 3x (with two cats) and the litter has that “used” smell to it. I’m using Dr. Elsey’s Multicat because it’s what my older cat has always preferred. I have no needed to add more litter but I’m considering emptying out all the litter that’s currently in there and putting all new in. 3RD UPDATE: I change the litter bag twice weekly (Tuesday evening before I leave town for work, and Saturday or Sunday when I get home from work). With just two average sized cats, the litter bag is full within 4ish days, anyway. If I pull the tray out and shake things around I can get another day or two, but that’s not really worth it for me. Unfortunately, in the last week, I have noticed a fruit fly/gnat problem in my house. I laid out traps in my kitchen to no avail and noticed today that they are living (& I’m assuming breeding) in the litter waste pan. Gross! I’ve put a trap beside the litter box, but I’m unsure how to deal with this effectively. Despite my complaints, I am overall happy with this purchase. I just want people to be aware of the flaws and realities of this litter box before purchasing. I read hours of reviews on many brands before purchasing but I’m still experiencing issues I hadn’t considered. As someone who works out of town 3+ days/week, this is great for me and my pet sitter. My cats also seem to like it, but it is NOT a perfect machine. 4TH UPDATE: I’ve now had this litterbox for a year and a half. I have also gained one more cat (totaling three) and purchased a Litter Robot 4. I have these two devices side by side and two of my cats use them equally while my oldest cats exclusively uses the Litter Robot. With three cats using two boxes I still empty the trays every 4ish days. The litter needs refilled once weekly in each. I give them a total breakdown & scrub quarterly. I placed a blue light bug trap in the outlet between the litter boxes which has helped with fruit flies. We haven’t had any more issues after the initial infestation. One of my cats scratches a LOT and the Litter Robot liner needed replaced roughly six months ago. The CATLINK liner now also needs replaced and is leaking litter into the tray through the scratched holes. Litter Robot sent a free, heavier, liner when requested. CATLINK informed me they have them available for purchase when I emailed to ask. Currently I am debating that purchase or if my cats will be ok with just the Litter Robot.

Awful customer service
The litter box works fine (so far, after around 6 months so no comment on longevity) but the customer service is pretty much non-existent, specially if you're in Canada. I've been trying to ask them if they have a better grid piece because the one that came with the litter box is too lose and the cats keep removing it. I was passed around for a while between email addresses that were not working until I was finally told that just deal with it. Just pay the little extra and get the litter robot.
