What do you need a screwdriver for?

I did not need a screwdriver. The metal device on the attic door you hook onto to open it fit into a hole in the attic door that was already there ( if not it will be necessary to drill one) and was attached with a provided nut. On the other hand, the more tools I appear to need usually impresses my wife with my handyman skills.

What is the length of the pole?

From the top of the hook to the base is 38.5"

Installation instructions

We love ours! I can't remember the exact size drill bit I used, but I think the instructions that came with the unit spelled it out. Anyway, I drilled a hole where the previous rope pull was installed. You then install the included hardware so the loop is hanging down. That's it. Easy as pie! Good luck.
