A-26 Invader: Douglas A-26/B-26 from WWII Through Vietnam

Modelers and aviation enthusiasts alike will likely enjoy this volume from the Legends of Warfare series. It contains many well-printed and well-chosen photographs of this iconic attack aircraft, including the A26K which is my favorite incarnation of this aircraft. Many of the photographs are in colour, and a wide range of images have been chosen to really illustrate the history of this aircraft very well. There are also plenty of detail images and if you are a fan of these aircraft this book should appeal to you! Recommended!

douglas b-26 replaced martin b-26, an unusual occurance

This book was written by David Doyle; ergo, the English is lucid and unerringly hits its spots, sadly untrue of many Schiffer group publications. Mr Doyle has also studded his account with a commendable array of scale-drawings, tending more informative than mere photographs. The drawback is that none reveals its scale. The A-26 Invader was designed to replace the A-20 Havoc, the B-25 Mitchell and B-26 Marauder-- to simplify production, then maintenance in action, as well as provide greater firepower, a heavier bomb-load and superior performance. Production problems delayed its advent until September 1943, but it then excelled, operating well into the jet age. After WW2, it saw combat in Korea and Vietnam, also in covert roles in Cuba, Indonesia, The Congo, Angola and Biafra, and was retired at last in 1969, after much evolution and improvement. What an achievement! What an aircraft! What a book! Nonetheless, a final gripe: Mr Doyle should have written more about the Invader in WW2 (condensed into one third of a page); the same applies to Korea (another third of a page). Some photographs might have been sacrificed to create space, since several add little. I've doffed a star in protest. Hell, no! I've added it back again. The book nestles comfortably in my library among similar Legends of Warfare publications on the Havoc, Mitchell and Marauder. Buy them-- you'll see what I mean. A final plus-point: they're all written by Mr Doyle.

I have a history with these birds during the Vietnam War at a remote base near the Mekong River. Reading this book increased my base knowledge and the history of this aircraft. Currently building a ICM brand, 1/48 scale model. B-26K Counter Invader. This book has given me many reference points.

Another excellent volume to cover a favorite aircraft, this with the Douglas Invader. This highly Illustrated volume will greatly assist the scale model builder with photos and drawings to validate parts and assemblies toward greater accuracy. The Invader an important aircraft used first during WWII, then Korea, and with other uses and rebuilding as the B-26K / A-26A in Vietnam. The Invader was also used as a base for executive transport use, all covered here. Highly recommended.
