Buy German Grammar Drills 2 by Swick, Ed (ISBN: 9780071789455) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: I have almost the entire Practice Makes Perfect grammar series in French and German - I have almost the entire Practice Makes Perfect grammar series in French and German, and I certainly don't regret what I have bought so far. The "German Grammar Drills" and "The German Verb Drills" are a perfect complement to my 'Auftakt 2" book (O.U. course). Not only do they provide essential revision, which I badly need, but they "hard-wire" essential structures into my brain. Review: Five Stars - Really easy to follow. Invaluable piece of kit for refrence and learning.

Useful and well worth the purchase (with a few caveats)
I've now worked through several chapters of this book. It's a good help in understanding and beginning to master some grammatical features of German. You learn by studying and then doing. Answers are helpfully provided at the back. Just two complaints. For a number of the exercises only "sample answers" are provided, which means your answer may differ quite a lot from the one offered by the author. This is not ususally a problem as you still generally get a feel for whether the answer you gave is valid or not, but it does mean you're not getting a simple black and white answer. Related to this issue is the one of vocabulary and grammar. This book is not for beginners - despite what the title blurb says - as it demands a certain amount of German vocabulary knowledge to answer the questions, i.e. the vocabulary provided in the study sections is not adequate to cover what you need to know to write decent answers. This also applies to grammar to a lesser extent, as occasionally the book introduces grammatical features to the questions or answers of some sections that have not yet been examined in the book. So, this book is definitely not for beginners. I would say it is aimed at advanced beginners and those at the early intermediate level. Recommended. Update: the more I use this book the more I can see it's not for beginners, despite the blurb on the front cover. For example, some questions I just did on accusative-dative prepositions required you to also know something about the adjective endings, which I think is a design failing, as those have not been introduced in the book yet.

Not very useful for beginniners
As a beginner I've not advanced very far. It covers a lot, so very few drills on each section. My main problem is that I don't understand enough vocabulary, especially whether words are male or female. It assumes quite advanced vocab right from the start. Therefore I've not found this book useful at all at this stage. I think when I am more advanced, especially with the vocab, it will be more useful as consolidation.

It's good, but you must be prepared to work through the exercises thoroughly and methodically and then possibly repeat them if you are a novice like me. I thought it could have had a few more English translations for some of the German sentences given.

I'm still going on the book features but now I can already say it is very useful and full of exercises and the complete answer key is perfect! It is what I was looking for.

This is a great supplement to my Rosetta Stone sessions. With Rosetta Stone, I am learning how to speak, read and write German, but with this wonderful book I am learning WHY the grammar works the way it does. The format is easy to read and understand, and I think that the author does an excellent job of creating quick-but-fun exercises to help reinforce my grammar skills. There are plenty of examples in the front of each chapter, and I will often refer to a previous chapter if I need additional help on a question. As the title implies, this book is a great way to reinforce your grammar skills, however, it works best in conjunction with a German class or other form of instruction. It doesn't give definitions for all nouns and a dictionary or a little prior knowledge of the German language will help immensely. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for something to drill them on their beginner/intermediate German grammar.
