Does what it's supposed to
Works really well and fast. Cleaned and squared quickly. No visible wear after a few uses.

Better value than the more expensive brands.
I bought this at the same time I purchased a 8 inch low speed grinder also from Powertec. This did a great job of truing the wheels in about a minute. I would have given it a 5 star rating but the diamond surface was uneven with a heavier build up just off center that I had to compensate for when using it. It still does a fantastic job despite this however so I will continue to use it until I wear it out. I also have one of the old fashioned "death wheel" style grinding wheel dressers that I got from the hardware store for twice the cost but I don't know that I will continue to use the older one given how well this Powertec dresser performs. I should also mention that it makes far less dust than other styles of wheel dresser make and still does a better job.

highly recommend
I bought this instead of a new grinding wheel and this made my old wheel like new. saved money, time ordering and replacing old wheel.

A couple of years and still works like new.
I have been using this for a couple of years and it has held up well. I dress the wheels on my grinder probably once a month. Sometimes a couple of time in a day sometimes it could be a couple of months. It does a nice job cleaning up the wheel and squaring it off. The tool still works as new for me. I waited till it was used more than once to write a review because most of you like me wonder what it's like down the road a bit.

RECOMMENDED: Well made, durable, very affordable
This dressing tool is an outstanding value. Previous reviewers who downrated this tool because theirs wore out after a single use simply didn’t use theirs correctly. Diamond rates 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, whereas aluminum oxide (which is what many bench grinder wheels are made of) is a Mohs hardness of 9. However, in absolute terms, diamond is Vickers 10,000, which is about five times harder than aluminum oxide. BUT… The diamond chips are attached to the handle by embedding them in an electroplated nickel or a nickel-cobalt alloy. Though nickel melts at 1455 °C (metals begin glowing at 600 °C), nickel’s strength weakens with each degree increase in temperature. You just can’t hog a dresser tool into a grinder wheel like you’re trying to rough out a 50-year-old axe; it takes a light and intermittent touch to minimize generated heat and allow heat to dissipate. I bought a new 8ʺ bench grinder and found that the 60-grit wheel had 0.014ʺ of total indicated runout (TIR). That’s a lot; the grinder was vibrating, it’s hard on its bearings, and you get chatter while grinding. Fearing that the diamond chips on this very affordable dresser tool would tear away, and since I had a lot of TIR, I didn’t want the tool skittering around on me when it first made contact. So, as you can see in the VIDEO… • I used some old-fashioned friction tape to prevent skittering. • Also, I had a helper squirt water while truing the wheel to cool the nickel matrix holding the diamond chips in place. When done, the wheel had unmeasurable TIR (within the 0.002ʺ of measurement repeatability). And, as you can see in the PHOTO, the tool was in factory-new condition when done. If you use a light touch, dress for a second or two before allowing several seconds of cooling time, you probably don’t need water coolant as I did in the video. Moreover, you probably also don’t need friction tape unless you’ve got a large amount of runout.

Wow! Trued up 3 wheels in an instant!
I reluctantly purchased this tool because I really didn't think it would 1) work well and 2) last long. Well, I was wrong on both counts. Have 2 bench grinders, with three stone wheels between them. Working with aluminum on grinders is a mess, because lots of aluminum gets embedded in the wheel and doesn't come off even when hit with steel bar. To add to the aluminum mess, all three wheels (fine, medium and coarse) were worn unevenly. Round corners, groves in centers, etc. This little tool cleaned up and trued up all three wheels in a few minutes. Add to that the tool has enough life left to do all three wheels two or three times again. The trick to using this tool compared to the "pizza cutter" tools, is to not push hard. A nice light touch does the job. The wheel just wears down in a flash. There was stone dust all over the work bench after using this tool. I did push hard at one point using the edge of the tool, and the diamond grit wore off in about a 1/8 inch wide stripe half way down the face of the tool. Pushing hard got me nowhere. Light, easy pressure works best. Now the wheels are square. And 95% of the embedded aluminum is gone. Ground an old screwdriver square and true with the wheels and everything was smooth sailing. No grabbing, no bumping, just smooth grinding action. For half the price of a new wheel, this tool did a great job. Saved me buying new wheels all around. Nice tool. Great bang for the buck.

Not sure yet
I just got it yesterday. Trued up the 8” 150 grit aluminum oxide wheel. There were grooves being cut with a light pressure. I got it leveled eventually. Not sure how it will hold up. Amazon call me back in a year, I’ll let you know.

A cheap and efficient way of tidying up my small bench grinding wheel. Not sure how long it will last, but for the price it’s done it’s first good job with little signs of wear. Hopefully this will last a good while longer yet.

I ordered this one because it had a longer handle than other similar products. Cleaned up the surface of a new wheel nicely.

I use my bench grinder to sharpen steel drill bits, in this order my grinding wheels always need to be perfectly straight and fresh, the product design and quuality is very good. easy to handle. it does very well its job, the only problem is there is not a thick layer of abrasive material. I d'ont expect it to last more then two years for me. if someone would use this tool every day on a big grinding wheel it would not last a month. Still great tool for light duty application.
