desertcart.com: Crescent City Hardcover Box Set: 9781639732180: Maas, Sarah J.: Books Review: Good series, great boxed set - I don't know why they're selling boxed sets of unfinished series, but this one is a lovely set. I bought it because the third book had just released and cost over half the price of the boxed set, so I figured it was a good deal. The set is a lovely hardback edition of the Crescent City series so far. Read on for a review of the books included. This is the first SJM series I've read in which the first book was great. In both ACOTAR and ToG, the first book was the weakest, even though the series as a whole ended up being good. I was prepared to endure another slog, but Crescent City hits the ground running. This is an urban fantasy, so they have modern technology and magic. I joked about the first book being a buddy cop show with wings, but it's very cozy and easy to read. I'm not a fan of mixing angels and demons with fae and aliens, but somehow, they're all here, and the books are still good. The books aren't ToG. They probably won't live in your head for the rest of time and make you cry every time you think about Thirteen or closing gates. Still, there are some very memorable scenes that manage to be both high-stakes and hilarious. (And you'll find out what three things Ruhn Danaan knows.) And there is a crossover with ACOTAR. I can't tell you without spoiling it, but it is worth continuing when CC starts to slow down. The crossover honestly changed how I felt about some of the ACOTAR characters, and I'm not entirely sure I'll see them the same again. Review: Great gift - I about these for a gift. My daughter loved them. They were very nice.

Another great series
This one started slow for me. She usually shows more of the good side of people through sharing the characters’ inner lives, leading us to develop a liking that deepens with each character as the story progresses. It took quite a while for me to care about any of them, which made the 1st book drag. Once I started to care about the characters, the books became the page-turners I expect from Maas. The ended g was quite enjoyable!

Love these books!
Love these books and definitely suggest! I always take the sleeves off my hard cover books to read and when I removed it from the second book I realized that it’s printed upside down! The words on the spine of the book are upside down when you’re reading it correctly. Obviously doesn’t effect the quality of the books themselves, but it does kind of drive me nuts

Good series for adults
I have already read this series and bought this set as a gift for my daughter in law. It’s urban fantasy, and pairs well with the other SJM book series, but it’s not absolutely necessary to read the others if you don’t want to get into a 27 book obsession. There are adult themes.

Through love, all is possible 🌙
I’m still processing the absolute chaos and brilliance of this ending. The final stretch (especially chapters 95–102) felt like a nonstop emotional avalanche where every chapter raised the stakes, and somehow, it still kept escalating. Everything came full circle through connection and sacrifice. Every character had a role to play, every thread mattered, and the way their stories intertwined felt intentional and earned. The themes of loyalty, chosen family, and second chances hit hard, especially watching characters trust each other in moments where everything could’ve fallen apart. Bryce, though… she is the heart of this series. Her humor, resilience, and willingness to carry the weight for everyone else made her journey unforgettable. The sacrifices made, both hers and others, were devastating but meaningful, and the emotional payoff was worth every bit of heartbreak. This book (and entire series) wrecked me in the best way. It balanced action, grief, love, and hope so well that by the end, I felt completely drained, but also put back together in a strange, beautiful way. Out of all the SJM series, this one might be my favorite. It’s messy, intense, and deeply human beneath all the magic and chaos. Through love, all is possible.

Must read
My favorite series! Hated that it ended but loved every moment. Each character, chapter and situation kept me captivated.

Loved this series. The world building and character development and yearning and the plot twists. I enjoyed this series very much and love the MAAS universe she has created in her books. My husband has enjoyed them as well. The banter between characters was humorous and delightful. A very good read.

Så fantastiska böcker. Mer komplext världsbyggande än i författarens andra serier.

Arrived in mint condition which really shocked me! Stunning special editions that didn’t have a single bent corner, and let’s just say , that almost never happens with my book orders. Well, except this time and I’m so so so happy with it!
