SQL Queries for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Data Manipulation in SQL [Viescas, John] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. SQL Queries for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Data Manipulation in SQL Review: Best text for learning SQL queries. - I cannot give the book enough praise. Starting with simple query language Mr. Viescas takes the reader through increasingly complicated data filtering methods, with clear explanations of how and why things work. The sample databases provided allow for lots of practice with practical implementation as the reader increases her skill, and each stage of learning flows logically from previous lessons. The book, in an unfortunate rarity, presents many problems for the reader to solve, not only at the end of each chapter but sprinkled throughout. In an added bonus, the book's discussion of the topic provides better understanding of how a good database is designed, because you can't conduct efficient queries if your database is poorly implemented. I don't believe there's anyone interested by a greater understanding of SQL that would not benefit from spending time with this gem. Review: Best beginner to intermediate SQL book - I'm over 400-pages in to this book and love it. It's the best of the six SQL books I've bought from desertcart. I was a novice SQL coder and now I'm solid intermediate with more growth coming. Joins were my weakness but not anymore. I recommend this book without reservation for anyone in the beginning range of SQL proficiency. The next step is a good SQL "cookbook" like found here on desertcart.

Best SQL Book ever!
If you want to learn SQL, then you should buy this book! This book teaches not only practical knowledge, but also gives theoretical knowledge as well. The theoretical knowledge teaches you to understand the concepts, and the practical knowledge teaches you how to do the concepts. The diagrams in this book are excellent and the table designs in the appendix give you a visual representation of how the tables are set up. If you want a thorough explanation of SQL and how to query at a beginning to intermediate level, then this book is the one you should buy. If you are looking at how to query at a more advanced level, the author's website gives excellent suggestions.

Great for syntax details
I needed to update myself on Join syntax. This book was great at explaining that.

Wow... this looks new.
Amazing condition and wrapped well. I lime when a soft cover book is wrapped instead of being loose in a box.

Easy to Follow
I purchased this book for a class I was taking, but continued reading it afterwards. The author is not only easy to follow, but provides ample examples and is pretty funny. This was a great read and brought my SQL skills up quite a lot. I would recommend this book to anyone at a beginner or intermediate level in SQL.

Excellent book for beginners!
It was reading this book many revisions ago that I learned how to do my first JOIN! After that, I was hooked! I'm pleased that the book has been so popular that it's used as a textbook as well as an excellent primer for the new student. I purchased this most recent revision for my youngest son, whom I hope will enjoy it!

I purchased this book due to study because I had a hard time studying coding on the screen, but it helped me to understand. Maybe I am old, and a physical paper is best. By the way, this book explains SQL knowledge very well~!
