Black Gold Seedling Mix 8qt

Really nice seed starting mix! It’s light and fluffy and works really well. I use this stuff every year and it never disappoints. I rarely find sticks in it. Seeds germinate quickly and stay in good health when using this product.

Light, fluffy, airy. That best describes this seedling mix which means even the smallest seeds have a good chance of germinating in this high quality mix. Ingredients are clearly listed, planting instructions well defined, and suggestions for successful planting from flats to garden are spelled out in detail. To the gardener who starts seedlings indoors, this product is well worth the money and time needed to successfully grow plants. Just remember to harden them off before planting outdoors.

Within days my large plans perked up and within 1 1/2-2 weeks all had 1-2 new leaves ? Lost many Decades old plants to fungus Gnats from popular Brand potting soil 2 years ago. . Tried many recommend products to get rid Of the Gnats and no improvement. Same thing happened the following year and did find Gnatrol online that does really work to kill the gnats, after several treatments. Don’t want to go through that again. Research done and this Brand “Black Gold” seedling soil and potting soil recommended as gnat free and good quality soil. Will buy 2 more bags today for a total of 6 so far.

It seems to be a good seed starter mix; however, only time will tell if the mix is nourishing.

I love this stuff. I used to use Coast of Maine seed starting mix but it changed this year and has become chunky and horribly hydrophobic. Now I use Black Gold and it takes bottom watering 5-10 min (depending on the size of cells you’re using) to saturate vs the hours I was stuck waiting around for CoM to rehydrate. A word of advice: set a timer to what it takes to saturate 50% of your cell/container/etc or it will become too saturated. In about a hour it will have soaked through the whole cell. For me that’s 4-5min. The wetting agent in here works ridiculously well. I have found that sometimes I need to add more perlite because the wetting agent works so well + holds on to moisture a little too much. My peppers and tomatoes have struggled in it, so I started adding perlite for them. Once you get the hang of it, works absolutely wonderful. Great growth. Quality mix. Love the wetting agent (though it takes some time to get used to). Watch the price on Amazon sometimes it drops really low and I can scoop up a bunch of bags!

This is a great mix---rich, but porous. Really like it. Arrives somewhat moist, not all dried up and hard to re-wet. I also like the cellophane-like bag instead of the usual soft and easy-to-tear plastic.

This is nice and black seeding mix the way I personally like it. Must be filtered as clean as can be. I did add 3 small handfuls of black roots vermiculite to the bag. I want good water retention in my seeding mix but this looks good the way it is. For my growing dirt I add plantonix perlite for good drainage but thats just me. I spread this out in my dirt tub and misted it 6.2 ph out in the sun hopefully to get rid of any gnats if any. Did not see any hatch at all but being organic it is a fact of life so taking no chance's for inside.

My new go to for seed starter. Rich black gold mixed with perlite. Stays fluffy and retains water well.
