I purchased these crates several months ago. when i stepped on them yesterday (in the ground now) i heard a loud cracking sound. is this normal?

Sometimes a panel can not be snapped in all the way. If they suddenly they are pushed into place they will make a loud snapping noise. Not a big deal. You are good.

Question 2

Will the volume of the small matrix block be enough to keep a 26" tall vase/fountain full and flowing? Is there a formula to work out optimum volume?

Accepted Answer

There is no formula.  It comes down to how often do you want to add water.  The larger the basin, the less time between refilling.  You could use a 5 gallon pail as your reservoir or 100 Aquablox.  It is up to you.  If you add an auto-waterfill to keep the reservoir topped off, then size does not matter.

Question 3

How does the Aquavox store water? I'm confused?

Thanks for your question! The AquaBlox — and other brands of water matrix — don't store water (they're not watertight). Their big merit is that they provide good support for fountains and rocks and other water features while leaving a lot of empty space for water to fill. You still need to install them in a watertight reservoir or basin or liner.
