Fantastic razor
Great razor with the right amount of adjustability. I shave my head in the shower, so being able to adjust easily based on WTG, ATG, etc is critical. Open comb can be scary to use on your head, but the adjustability makes the fear go away quickly. Going across the grain on 3.5 mows down 2-3 days of growth without hesitation, and going against the grain on 2-2.5 is nice and mild, yet affective. In my experience, this razor likes sharper blades, but that can be extremely variable based on the user. As long as you are used to not applying any pressure, the heft of the razor is great and does all the work. I also appreciate the long handle for shaving the back of my head. The build quality is excellent and it feels like a razor that should last a lifetime as long as it is well treated. The knurling on the handle is the right amount of aggressive, even when covered in soap. The channels behind the comb are very deep, so I can shave an entire pass on my head without even thinking about needing to rinse This is probably my 8 or 9th razor (second adjustable), but has quickly gained a spot in my top 2. Definitely worth a try

You will be convinced it’s a keeper
Excellent, adjustable so it can accommodate comfort and closeness of shave. It is very well weighted, letting the razor do the work. As a beginner to double edge razors I find it easy to use. As I use it, the open comb allows a small accumulation of shaving soap on the blade which allows a little extra protection. I use Dorco prime platinum blades (sharp) with this razor on a “mild” setting. It provides a great shave and no nicks. Its a very good razor.

The Best 2-3 Day Growth Safety Razor Ever!
The most comfortable, repeatable, and adaptable 3 piece adjustable OPEN comb safety razor I have ever used. Crafted with high quality material and a good heavy handle gives a premium feel. I have been a Merkur Futur user for 10+ years and the one complaint I’ve had would be the tendency for Hair to clog at the bottom of the safety bar. As a frequent sufferer of ingrown hair with semi-dry sensitive skin I go 2-3 days between shaves and this clogging of my wiry thick growth in the blade exacerbated the problem. With the Parker open comb design, thick stubble is smoothly combed and presented to the blade in a manner that prevents the blade from tugging at the skin causing friction and in grown hairs. At first cut with the razor I could instantly feel the release of my hair in a smooth gliding sensation rather then the traditional peeling feeling I associate with shaving. Currently I am testing Viking Blades for medium to corse hair with the Parker handle and the shave is forgiving yet close and uniform. I have some Gillette Nacent, Bic Chromium, and Feather hi-stainless blades to also give a shot. If you’re looking for a razor for 2-3 day type shaves look no further than this Parker Razor.

The best DE razor so far.
I have tried 6 different double edged (DE) closed comb razors from well known highly rated manufacturers and all have given me a decent shave. Having said that, this adjustable open comb Parker is better by quite a margin. The adjustments go from 1 to 5 with 1 being very safe and non-aggressive. I suppose you could cut yourself with it set at 1 but you would have to be trying to or doing something stupid. Set at 5 however it is very aggressive. I tried 5 and ended up with a couple of small nicks and that was being careful. I use 3 1/2 most of the time. The only negative comment you'll hear from me about this razor is that the indicating dot is the same color as the handle which means I can't see it when I have my glasses off while shaving. C'mon man, put a white dot on the dark handle or a black dot on the metal handle. There is something about the open comb that just allows a closer shave than a closed comb and it requires less pressure when shaving as well. I mean, don't press too hard. Light pressure will get the job done and with that there is less irritation to my skin. It also leaves some shave cream behind after each pass so your next pass is better lubricated than with a closed comb razor and your face doesn't become dry as quickly when shaving. You don't have to re-lather as often. Another thing I have found is that with this razor I can get up to five decent shaves with one blade while with all the other razors I have tried I was only getting three decent shaves per blade. Perhaps this is due to using less pressure while shaving. The weight and handle length don't really concern me one way or the other, you get used to a razor after a half dozen shaves or so. Finally there is the "feel" of this razor when shaving. This razor gives more tactile feedback than any razor I have used before. You can really feel when you're holding it at just the correct angle and when you're just off a little bit, much more so than my previous razors. For the money I don't think you can find a better DE safety razor. My previous razors were not inexpensive and touted by many as being top notch precision razors but this Parker Variant Adjustable is way ahead of them in terms of a close, efficient shave. I am glad I tried some other name brands before this one because otherwise I wouldn't have anything to compare it too. If you are now using or have used a DE razor switching to this will be a step up for you. I have no affiliation with this company and purchased a Parker Variant Open Comb Adjustable with my own money from Amazon after reading reviews about it on several websites. My opinions are my own, feel free to agree or disagree. I don't care if you purchase one or not, either way has no effect on me or my life. November 2024

Doesn't work well
I don't know guys. I have the r41 and r89, I'm very happy with them. I decided to try this one. I'm shaving my entire head with r41 and Muhle blades, then I pass my problem spots with r89 using Feather blades. Never got any cuts. With Parker setting 3, I was used the alum block multiple times during shaving, it was a first time for probably 3 years. It wasn't related to my technic. I can handle r41 with no nicks on entire head shave. There is nothing to enjoy with this razor. I've never had any luck with Parker, this was my last attempt...

I'm sure you can pay more for better, but you can't pay the same for better.
Very nice. Well put together. The indicators of the blade aggresiveness are kinda not accurate. Screw it down to bottom and come back up as you can.

Best Adjustable DE Razor For the Money
Parker Variant Open Comb Parker Variant Open Comb Just received and used this razor for the first time, and it’s time for some ranting and raving. For perspective, I’m new to DE Safety razors, and started by using a bevel razor. After using this for a few weeks, and watching hours and hours of videos about various razors, I settled on the Parker open comb. I was concerned about it being too aggressive or coming in faulty or misaligned. The razor came with no noticeable flaws with alignment, fit/finish, not screwing down all the way. The razor also does a good job of varying between barely usable 1 to almost scary to use 5 setting, with everything in between. It does not click to a specific spot, so you can infinitely adjust the blade gap with micro adjustments to your liking. For me, the 3-3.25 setting with a personna platinum coated blade was an absolute laser beam. There were no nicks aside from one on my lip that was absolutely my fault. The soap cleared out of the comb super easy, and the grip/ weight of the razor is perfect for me. Not too heavy, not too light, and zero grip issues. For the price point of $60, I can confidently say this is the best value for me. The Rockwell 6c requires you to change plates. The Rockwell t2 is too expensive. The merkur progress looks like it’ll slip out of my hands and slice my toe off, and the pearl flexi look too chonky for me. Everything else isn’t adjustable or isn’t worth the money to me. I would love to hear what everyone else thinks of it, or why they are holding off from trying one.
