I often set my phone down on boulders and the ground when I hike and backpack and the protruding lenses on these newer phones always leaves room for the lenses to get damaged by small pebbles and rocks. With the cover closed the lenses are totally protected. Finally, the lens cover also acts as a kickstand and it is pretty stable in the horizontal and vertical orientation. The kickstand feature won't work on soft material like a bed for instance. I can't really think of any cons - the case just feels solid and great to hold in your hand (the sides of the case have ridges which really makes for a nice grip).
