Seems to work much better than the average.
These NCV devices are always a bit haphazard, but I would recommend this one as long as you understand its limitations. Also it seems well made and I particularly like the screw on battery compartment.

First tester I've ever owned. Surprised how sensitive it was. Identified live wires, plugs, sockets the lot. Good buy for a DIY.

Sensitivity overcome with digital readout
Whilst the device can pick up power 2feet away from reality (as others have said) it does have a numerical readout on the top which helps to pinpoint the power signal more accurately. The higher the number the closer you are to the power cable.

A very useful bit of kit for the home.
Got this as A Christmas present but tried it out myself. This has a dual voltage range, so low voltages can be detected. My own doesn't have this facility. I know from experience this is an extremely useful bit of kit for detecting mains voltage. Just place the tip near a plug, wire or socket and the tip lights up red. Way better than using the old style "screwdriver" neon testers. Four stars as I've not used this for any length of time.
