Its wide 50-20,000 Hz frequency response and cardioid polar pattern ensure clear, natural audio with excellent background noise rejection. ## Description

Review: Professional, versatile and easy to use! - Shure SM7dB I’ve been using the SM7dB for just over a year now, mainly for content creation & voice calls. It’s easily the best microphone I’ve owned. I’ve used other dynamic mics in the past and always had to rely on a Cloudlifter or crank my interface gain way up. The SM7B also struggles with really getting that volume out which is why the SM7dB is a great stepup with the built-in preamp. I no longer need to source a cloudlifter and can simplify my setup. The sound is smooth, full, and very forgiving. It does a great job at removing background noise. However, I have to add that the microphone (as with any) will need treatment. It sounds a little muddy out of the box but after some EQ and room treatment the sound is phenomenal. So, if you're hoping to purchase this microphone and have it be amazing out of the box, I'd highly consider doing some research beforehand. The onboard gain switch is simple but effective, and I like that I can turn it off if I ever want to use an external preamp. Even if you don't feel you need the preamp - I'd still recommend taking the SM7dB over the SM7B just so that you always have that option available to you. As always with Shure, the build quality is amazing. The microphone looks minimalistic and the materials it is built out of give it a solid, heavy feel to it. Personally, I like to feel a solid microphone when moving a boom arm rather than something light, or even plastic. Yes, it’s expensive, and it's definitely more of a luxury purchase than a need. There's definitely both dynamic and condense microphones out there that will perform just as well for a cheaper price tag. However, if you're fond of content creation, professionalism or you have the budget to spend - I would recommend the SM7dB all day. It's a great microphone and it's really versatile. I've had no issues with it.
Review: Excellent dynamic microphone - Best podcasting speaker out there, it’s expensive but it packs a punch. Easy to set up with a XLR interface and produces a brilliant clear sounding representation of your voice. Definitely recommend this if your into the best for studio/podcasting/streaming work

## Features

- LEGENDARY SOUND - The SM7dB delivers the familiar warm tone adored by broadcasters, vocalists and content creators alike, Shure engineers have painstakingly ensured that it has the same sound signature as the original SM7B
- BUILT-IN PREAMP - Providing up to +28 dB of low-noise, flat, transparent gain, the onboard preamp preserves the mic’s frequency response for a clean, classic sound, all you need is an interface or mixer offering +48V phantom power to operate the preamp
- GAIN LEVEL - Choose between +18dB or +28dB from the preamp, loud sound sources like a guitar cab or snare drum, use +18dB or bypass the preamp for the original SM7B output level, Podcasting or recording quiet vocals, select the built-in boost of +28dB
- BYPASS SWITCH - A convenient bypass mode allows you to forego the built-in preamp in case you prefer to feed the mic’s unboosted signal into your professional console or interface, bypassing the preamp reverts the SM7dB to original SM7B performance.
- WIDE FREQUENCY RESPONSE - Whether you’ve activated the preamp or not, you’ll get the same great detail in your recordings from a proven dynamic cartridge and frequency range of 50 to 20,000Hz, hear all the highs and lows for truly natural sounding audio
- CARDIOID POLAR PATTERN - Excellent rear-rejection and textbook cardioid pick-up pattern isolates your voice from any background noise, allowing the SM7dB to capture warm, crisp audio in any environment, ideal for less-than-ideal spaces
- FIND YOUR IDEAL TONE - Just like the SM7B, the SM7dB offers multiple sound signatures using switches on the back of the microphone to suit any type of voice or instrument, find your ideal tone by cutting the lows or boosting the presence
- UNCLUTTER YOUR AUDIO CHAIN - The SM7dB frees you from clunky in-line preamps and other accessories, while ensuring you get that classic SM7 tone no matter where you’re recording, one less thing to worry about while you’re traveling
- WHAT’S IN THE BOX - SM7dB microphone, Close-Talk Windscreen, 3/8 Inch Thread Adapter

## Questions & Answers

**Q: So NO spider mounts with this one? Does this mean this one doesn't need it?**
A: It is not a condenser microphone, even if it "acts" as one; as a studio mic, I mean. This microphone is designed to be mounted either on a boom arm (I got myself a desk boom, which you can use to sing while standing as well and takes a lot less space in the room) or on a classic mic stand (which I have as well if I want to set up in a larger room). Even the use of a pop filter isn't essential with this one, for it already comes with an integrated one, and a bigger, thicker option to tie around the mic with provided velcro clasps. Two considerations: if you get a boom arm, get a heavy duty one, as this mic is quite heavy; unless you have a very powerful mixing desk, you might need a preamp to boost the signal. Having said that, this mic will give you a BEAUTIFUL, warm, rich sound. I love it.

**Q: what is the best shure microphone ever?**
A: It all depends on what you are using the mic for. I myself am a screaming vocalist and this (sm7b) is the best possible mic for recording screams around. Alot clearer than a sm58. depends what you're using it for really every shure mic has it pros and cons for what you use it for.

**Q: Will it fit onto the 'røde psa1 swivel mount studio microphone boom arm' ?**
A: Yes, but please bare in mind that due to the position of the XLR socket you will need a spacer bar. The connector will otherwise sit so close to the 'head' of the arm that you will have difficulty plugging it in or have restricted motion otherwise.

**Q: Does an adapter exist that allowed me to attach this to a normal boom strand but still still have the screws hanging down (like on a studio arm)**
A: I would reccomend the Rode boom arm.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Iconic masterpiece in sound and build quality
*by R***D on 11 August 2025*

This mic is really amazing. The sound quality is fantastic and smooth. You get what you pay for. I bought two, and use them for podcasting and interviews. Many people tend to get them because they look good on video, but I just use audio so went primarily on the sound quality. I also recommend you get these over the SM7B, as they have the built in phantom power gain switch, which is worth it as opposed to buying additional products to get that 48V of power. So far, I've tested the mic on my Rodecastor Pro II and Zoom F3, and the sound is really amazing. I would recommend you get it. For podcasting this is the creme de la creme of mics. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I've recommend the Shure SM57 with the special mic head to reduce plosives. It will give you a similar aound, but not quite the same. You can also go for the sE Electronics V7 MK edition. Both these cheaper alternatives will do a great job, but in terms of sound quality and build quality for podcasting or Vlogging, the SM7DB really is the emperor of mics.
