Ethique Clarifying Solid Shampoo Bar with Castor Oil, 3.88 oz

This is my new favorite clarifying shampoo. I have super oily hair, and this cleans it well while leaving it quite soft. The bar lathers well and holds up well too. Never thought I’d like a bar shampoo but it’s a game changer. And the price is affordable.

This is a good shampoo bar for anyone with oily hair. It lathers nicely and cleans hair without drying it out. My family have used Ethique bars for years. At first I hated the new shape and wasn't pleased about Ethique changing the formulas but this is shampoo is great at keeping my husband's greasiness under control. It smells nice and lasts a long time. We will never go back to bottled shampoo.

Bought this August 2025 and I just started using a new bar in late June 2026. I wash my hair once a week so it lasted me about 45 washes, amazing bang for buck. It does the job, leaves my scalp feeling clean, and has an amazing lather.

When I first started using this shampoo bar, I really liked it. My scalp felt very clean and refreshed, and I was even able to go an extra day between washes at the beginning. After a couple of weeks, though, I noticed that my scalp started getting oily much faster, and I had to wash my hair daily again. Looking back, I think it might have been a bit too clarifying for my scalp and possibly left it feeling overly dry, which may have triggered more oil production. I’ve since switched to a different shampoo and started applying a small amount of aloe gel to my scalp after washing, and that has helped balance things out. This experience made me realize that my scalp is actually dry underneath but oily on the surface. I think this bar could work well for truly oily scalps, but it’s important to really understand your scalp type before choosing a clarifying product.

By far the best shampoo I’ve ever used. I’ve been using it for 8 years now and I’ll never go back to liquid shampoo. This lathers exceptionally well. It’s incredible value, 1 bar lasts me 2-3 months and I lather, rinse, repeat and have long hair. The fragrance is subtle but smells nice overall. I’ve had problems with buildup in my hair from regular shampoos and never had that problem with this one.

Great shampoo for oily hair plus removes hair products that build up. Feel that squeaky clean. I use it once a week. Would definitely recommend. Wet bar and rub between palms, then apply to scalp first.

I've used this shampoo for about 6 years on my fine hair. I love that it doesn't weigh my hair down, and it stays oil free longer. Recently, they changed the shape from a square block to a Crescent moon. Now it takes more space and the outer packaging is twice as big. Dumb move from a company that brags About being eco conscious.

This is the best shampoo I’ve ever used, regardless of the format (bar or liquid). It leaves my thick, fine hair feeling soft and clean. I live in an RV, and it’s common for RV dwellers to shower less often than house dwellers, so my oily hair gets some buildup. I brush the oil through my hair to moisturize my hair as much as possible, then I wash it. The shampoo removes the oil without leaving my hair overly degreased. It’s effective without being harsh. It smells like real lemongrass, which is lovely. I was concerned that if I left it on a shelf in the shower it would melt, so I bought some fine mesh bags to hold the shampoo, conditioner, and soap bars, and I hung them from hooks I adhered to the shower walls. Now the shampoo bar works very well, and I don’t have to remove it from its bag, either to use it or to let it dry.
