This book picks up right after the cliffhanger in Powerless, and it wastes zero time getting dramatic, stressful, and totally addictive. The characters make some seriously questionable decisions (like… guys, please think things through), but that’s what makes it fun. There’s action, danger, romance, secrets, and plot twists that made me stop and stare at the wall like I was buffering. I really liked how the friendships in this book get stronger and the stakes get way higher. There were moments where I actually said “NO WAY” out loud and my mom thought something was wrong. The whole world of the story feels bigger and more intense, and you get to see which characters you can trust… and which ones are basically walking red flags. If you read Powerless and thought, “Wow, I need more of this chaos,” then Reckless delivers. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves: • fast-paced adventure • complicated friendships • a little bit of romance • cliffhangers that personally attack you Now I just need book three because this ending was RUDE. Review: An Intense and Thrilling Sequel - "Reckless," the second book in The Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts, takes the excitement and suspense to a whole new level. As a fan of the first book, I was eager to dive into this sequel, and it did not disappoint. The plot picks up seamlessly from where the first book left off, with even more twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. Roberts continues to excel in world-building, creating a vivid and immersive setting that draws you in. The stakes are higher, and the tension is palpable as the characters face new challenges and dangers. The character development in "Reckless" is outstanding. The protagonist and supporting characters grow in unexpected ways, revealing deeper layers of their personalities and backstories. The relationships and dynamics between them become even more complex and compelling, adding richness to the narrative. One of the standout aspects of this book is the action. The pacing is spot-on, with plenty of thrilling moments that had me on the edge of my seat. While there are some predictable elements, the overall story is gripping and full of surprises. If you enjoyed the first book in The Powerless Trilogy, "Reckless" is a must-read. It’s an intense and thrilling sequel that will leave you eagerly awaiting the final installment. Lauren Roberts has crafted a captivating series that continues to deliver with each book.

Recommend!
I'm a 39 year old mom who recently finished The Powerless Trilogy. I am new to "romantasy" books, and I was pleased with all three of the books. I never got bored of the sweet and entertaining storyline, and at times found it hard to put down. Recommend : )

Beautiful Young Adult Romantic Fantasy
I could not be more impressed with the writing of Lauren Roberts. The imagery, the pacing, the plot, the resolution, everything about her books in the Powerless series blows me away. And she's so young! The depth of her characters and their stories and the insights into life are beautiful. Reckless is the second book in the Powerless series and it brought tears to my eyes a few times. Paedyn, our FMC, is a fugitive following the events at the end of Powerless. Now she is on the run, trying to evade the enemy she fell for during the Purging trials. This is an enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers again story. You'll have whiplash in the BEST way. Side note: regarding the romance, the Powerless Trilogy is definitely young adult with only 1 chili pepper for the first two books. Mostly slow burn with endearing and sweet intimacy that builds through forced proximity and companionship versus a physically s3xual relationship on the page. I personally LOVE some spice in my books, so the fact that I DEVOURED these and could not put them down WITHOUT there being open page spice speaks volumes to the beauty of her writing. I'm not a writer myself, obviously, so I am struggling to express the quality of Lauren Roberts writing. But the story is just beautiful. Anyways, back to the plot. Lots of action and suspense throughout the book with Paedyn nearly dying MANY times. Kai... even though he's enemy number 1 in this book, I still LOVE him. I just want to give him all the hugs for the turmoil he has experienced in his life. Tropes: Enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, dual POV Now to the good stuff, my favorite quotes (these will be better reading than my writing above, lol): What is she without her fire fueling her? A shell of the Silver Savior she once was? The ghost of a girl I was willing to ruin myself for? If she fights for nothing she lives for death. But if she burns for something, she lives for hope. I want her to fight me. I want her to burn for me, even if it means with hatred. Funniest Forced Proximity, one-bed scene I've read. So the scene picks up after Paedyn has Kai turn around and not look while she changes. "Can I turn around now?" I ask with a sigh when the bed creaks behind me. "Shh, I'm trying to sleep." I spin to see her sprawled ato the quilt, the stolen gray shirt swallowing her whole. With arms and legs stretched wide, she attempts to take up as much of the bed as possible. The sight is so unexpected that I nearly choke on a laugh. "What is --" "Sorry," she says, her eyes closed and lips crooked. "There's no more room on the bed." "I can see that, " I respond dryly. Home. The word stings my eyes, burns in my throat, just as the smoke had when I escaped the fiery fragments of my childhood. Each one of my homes is gone - my father, my Adena, my house on the corner of Merchant and Elm. She looks at me, shocked. And then she smiles, bright and big like the night sky hanging above us. I fear she could rival the stars. Lenny shakes his head. "You are a little cockroach, you know that?" "Plagues," I snort. "You really know what a girl wants to hear, don't you?" "No, I mean, I'm convinced you can survive anything." "Yeah, well, I'm convinced that becoming a curse," I say quietly." UGH. ALL of page 189. But here's a little... "I don't regret it." His words are a rush, a confession he's clung to. "I don't regret you, or what was between us. And I don't regret kissing you on that roof. But I know I'll regret what I have to do to you for the rest of my life." ... "Do you regret it?" he asks, voice urgent. ..."I..." My hands find his arms, cupping his wrists. "I regret not doing it right. And I regret not being what I'm supposed to be." .... several sentences later Death emboldens. The end initiates. ..."Pretend," I whisper against his lips. I am recklessness incarnet. Until the very end. His next words mirror the ones whispered after placing me atop his feet to dance beside the firelight. "Let me swim for the both of us." -#swoon Out here I am Kai and nothing more." His throat bobs. "Out here I am powerless. A monster without an ability to hide behind. An Enforcer free from his masks.

This book 😭 I loved every single part of it. The feelings I went through while reading it can’t even be described. I gave this book 5/5⭐️ when it deserves so much more. It needs its own scale. No, there’s not even a scale big enough to fit this book. Reckless starts off where Powerless ended and has a cliffhanger ending, you get to follow Kai and Paedyn as she has to face being on the run from the man she now is supposed to hate and Kai in search of the woman who killed his father forcing his brother to now take the throne. But it’s never that easy is it? B cause Paedyn isn’t about to come back willingly knowing her life is at stake and all she sees is Adenas death. The way it ended was exactly how I predicted it when I read the book but it didn’t make it any less good, no it made it even better cause I got that “HAH! I was right!” Feeling. This book had my heart growing two sizes and clenching with sorrow. It’s a masterpiece that should forever be remembered for the art it is. Thank you Lauren for this amazing book. Though it didn’t make me cry like the last book it still holds many memories and Pae and Kai will keep standing as one of my favorite couples. I need to know how this goes cause poor Kai needs his happy ending! I much this book sadly doesn’t, thought you’d finally get the HEA? Sorry to disappoint and say you won’t. But their story is beautiful and if you loved powerless and powerful you’ll absolutely love this book too. Again, thank you Lauren. You’re amazing.

I loved every minute of this second book. I kinda regret that I rushed trough it in only a couple of days but I couldn't help it. There was no good point to lay it down for a moment, every chapter was an absolute page turner...which resulted in me rushing through it. A huge part of this book was about the hunting and therefore the building of the relationship between Kai and Paedyn. There were a lot of ups and downs but the tension between the both of them never eased, a stunning slow burn. For me some chapters were highly emotional and I loved to read how they opened up to each other and shared their most inner feelings. All emotions between them built up during the book, until they burst out at the end...and THIS end shocked me to the bones!! I really rolled my eyes how long it took Kai to come to his senses until it was too late- but well, that's the story. I loved the reunion with my most favorit side characters from the Resistance - it could have been more chapters with them, though. I can't wait for the final book to be released!!
