What it does excel at is protection from very small light items/debris and dust. The kit comes with some thin foam to place in the bottom and outer edge of the tub, but that is all. You still have to be mindful of the perimeter at the walls. For this I lay down two layers of 3" wide blue masking first, then I follow the procedures to install the product. I didn't use the tape that came with it, instead prefer blue masking so it is easy for me to remove and replace as needed throughout the bathroom remodel process. So far its great for my needs and keeps errant blobs of thinset, grout, or drywall compound from setting on the tub surface. It's also great at keeping small dust and debris out of the drain and I don't have to worry about that same stuff causing scratches as I'm working in and around the tub. The material is like a heavy duty tarp or commercial billboard so I will definitely get multiple uses out of it. However, the tape to fasten it was inadequate and we had to add more tape. Also, it’s fairly thin, so we added a large piece of cardboard across the top for extra protection when removing old tile.
