I'm not sure what they had before but there is a red blowing light that is very faint on the side while you are using it. I also read a review about the wheel being very rough to the touch but I did not have that experience I can tell that it is not quite rubber but I do not find it rough to use and instead find it gripping just enough. I do not have any problem with carpal tunnel or anything that would prevent me from using a standard mouse although because of how many hours a day I have to use one my fingers do get a big cramped every once in awhile. So far I have not had any cramping issues while using this one and I've been using it for about a month now. I mentioned in another review how many wireless mice I have between my house my work and my car (for my phone) because having multiple that connect to multiple devices makes my life easier. Very often actually all the time I forget to charge them and do not realize it until all of a sudden they are dead. I prefer the chargeable ones because I always have a charging cable but I never have batteries. I would always make sure that I have a wired mouse available for when my wireless one dies and although I still make sure I have at least one wired one on hand at all times I find it easier to find good deals on wireless mice and just have free charged ones lying around. I have only charged this one once when I first got it and continuous use every weekday I'm so far it has not died or gotten any less responsive indicating that it might need charging.
