## Questions & Answers

**Q: I was using Phosguard in a Freshwater tank that has a problem with Diatoms. Now my Java fern is turning yellow and leaves are dieing.**
A: Java ferns are leaf feeders. They love phosphates.

**Q: can it be use on hang on back filter? with high flow rate?**
A: I don't see why not, it may reduce the flow some, but if you are having a problem it truly helps. We do a water change once a month and change it every other month. Our tank looks better and the fish have been healthier. Good Lock !

**Q: I have some brown algae on my sand bed and green algae on my glass in my 20 gallon lps reef tank. will this help? can it hurt my tank in any way?**
A: Brown algae (diatoms) & green algae can definitely be affected by phosphates & silicas. It won't hurt your tank at all.

**Q: is this more or less the same as using chem-blue?**
A: No.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Helped reduce algae in my tank
*by R***A on February 13, 2026*

Been using this for a while and it has helped with the algae in my tank. While it comes already bagged for use in larger aquariums, I have a 20 gal and use it in smaller mesh bags in my HOB filter. I can't say enough how much the SeaChem products have improved my tank quality! Love my healthy tank and fish!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It is Very effective
*by B***G on February 9, 2026*

I started with 10ppm of phosphate in my 40 gallon tank. The first packet became saturated in about 4 days. I am on my second packet, and my reading is between 1ppm, and 0.5ppm. This was my target. I'll leave the packet in for a few more days and then replace it with Fluval ClearCarb to maintain my desired level.
