Never had one of these; how is it that it doesn't leak if the closed chug cap is turned down since it doesn't look like it screws on?

It does screw on and has internal threads so you don't feel them. Zero leaks from this quality bottle. These are well made (and better be due to the price).

Part of the straw is exposed which I did not realize - it’s not very sanitary. Can you link a different top with straw that has a dust cover??

I bought a 12 pack on Amazon of replacement straws that include a rubber cover on the straw

is the 24 oz wide enough for you to put your hand in to hand-wash it?

No I do not fit my hand in the mouth hole. You need a special brush

My favorite!

I love Hydro Flask bottles. I have a few of them different types and sizes. They're good quality and holding the temperature well. Not as expensive as other brands. This one is my favorite because I can just flip the straw up and drink water while I'm driving. It fits great in my car. Highly recommended.
