It's very simple, just a single AA battery and a dial to set the time. I accidentally set the alarm once and it's plenty loud, I heard it on the other end of the house! I wanted something where the face was big enough with a clean face & hands so I can read it across the room without my glasses. Sometimes more ornate clocks can be hard to read from a distance without glasses. Note, this clock is not backlit in case this is an issue for you. This clock to me has a retro vibe. I bought the orange one, it's more of an orange-yellow. It's a cheerful color. So far, it's ticking away and seems to be keeping time very well. Overall, this is a quality clock for a good price.

Modern clock, great price. We use this on our bathroom shelf. It’s easy to read from the shower. It’s the perfect size. It is plastic but does not feel cheap. It has a back cover, some styles I looked at did not cover the battery. Simple design. I would highly recommend.
