We purchased it because our old board from the 1980's was not weathering well when we played outside. This one is waterproof. The triangles are painted on, but there are 2 layers of Lucite, and the painted surface is in the middle to prevent it from being scratched off, making the board unusable.The Lucite does scratch with play, but that is expected. The stones are larger than those to which we are accustomed, but have a good weight. The dice are a little small, a little light. Sometimes a die will spin like a top for quite a while before falling, which didn't happen on the old flannel set.We enjoy playing on this board. The colors are bright and cheerful. It came with a nice, substantial fabric bag for storage, as well as a bag for the cups and a small pouch for the dice that all fits inside the cups.Highly recommended for backgammon players! ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars NOT Waterproof *by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2019* It's more water resistent than the usual board but after two weeks of use floating in a boogie board in a pool (it was never submerged) enough water has gotten in between the lucite sandwhich to grow mold. I decided to upgrade and I’m very happy with this set. It’s a little bigger than I thought it would be so I probably should have bought the medium sized set. The only thing I don’t like is the handle. It’s too small for my hand.
