I am very impressed with the build quality, user interface, features and overall design of the N5 MK2 (N5ii). Cayin did a very nice job designing this DAP. The unit is solidly built and feels substantial. It was well packaged in a nice presentation style box,with an outer slip sleeve. Also included was a semi-rigid rubber/silicone case, charge/sync cable, two hi-res stickers and instruction manual. The player had both front and rear screen protectors pre-applied from the factory. Mine arrived with a charge of 55%. First I updated to the latest firmware, which only took a few minutes. I was happy to find I could directly swap my 2 x 128gb SanDisk micro sd cards from my old player into the N5ii. There are almost 7000 FLAC music files on the cards, but I was very surprised how quickly the player scanned them into the library. Listening has been very enjoyable. I find that there is more depth to the music and a wider soundstage. Instruments and voices have some air around them - they don't seem compressed and flattened. To me, the N5ii is a very musical player. It has nice dynamic range and frequency response. (I have done all my listening in "Audio Priority" mode with Etymotic Research ER4SR in ear monitors.) Album art is rendered quite well. I've been discovering features "hidden" in various Menu settings, which are not mentioned in the manual. I found the Cayin N5 MK2 forum at Head-Fi extremely helpful. I have had all of my product questions answered either by members, Cayin Support or an official representative of Cayin. The player does seem to have a glitch that I've noticed. The "VU Meter" screen's needles - accessed while music is playing - will randomly freeze. Returning to the "Home" screen starts them working again. Also, the quick alphabet scroll works for artists and songs, but not in the albums menu. (There is no English technical support available on the company's website. Hopefully this will change!) It would have been nice to have had an extra front and rear screen protector included. However, in my opinion, the Cayin N5 MK2 offers very high value for the money. Sound and musicality just wonderful! I have been completely satisfied with the DAP so far. Shipping was very quick from MusicTeck/Amazon. Add just that little bit extra of "bezel" and covers the SD card slots well. - Extremely light That last point is particularly wonderful. TheCONS - The screen isn't very good. Especially when using in brighter environments. - sound profile adjustments don't work in audio priority mode - wifi and bt don't work in audio priority mode - third party apps are pretty slow, but admittedly, once working, work well. - no optical out, only a jerry-rigged coax out.Favorite headphones with this for me is the meze 99.
