These units are store returns and are new but the boxes/packages have been opened, Theses unites have been inspected and reasealed in there origonal boxes for resale.

Review: Plugged in and worked perfectly straight away! - I was a little worried about some of the negative reviews, but when the card arrived I plugged it in and my Windows 7 laptop automatically installed the required driver. I then plugged in my video camera to the firewire-400 port and again Windows 7 automatically installed the driver and then opened up a video import wizard. So within 5 minutes of receiving the card I was successfully transferring video to my laptop. For reference, my laptop is a Dell Lattitude E6420 (purchased around July 2011) running Windows 7 32-bit. My video camera is an older Samsung Mini-DV type camera (Samsung dv381 or something like that from what I recall).

As noted by other reviewers, this device does not seem to work properly. I have a i5 processor windows 7 64 bit system laptop that is 1 month old, and it did not come with a firewire connection. I bought the Dynex card and tried it. The card is properly recognized by the computer, but when I connected my Song Camcorder through the firewire cable, it did not recognize the camcorder. I took it back to BestBuy (Dynex is a BestBuy house brand so I wonder how this is being sold through Amazon) and tried a 2nd card with the same results. To be sure, I connected the camcorder with the same cord to my desktop, and it was immediately noted and worked fine. So clearly the card has a problem.
