Thanks. My application is a gravity feed to an oil furnace pump. We have an occasional water problem. This would go between the oil shut off valve and a standard General filter. A drainable sediment bowl ahead of the filter takes maintenance but that's not an issue.

The headline says 3/4 fittings and the description says 1" fittings. Which is it?

I saw the same thing when I ordered mine. I took them at their word and ordered four reducers with my two filters. When they came they were 1" NPT. Want to buy four 3/4" NPT Male to 1" NPT adapters?

The Goldenrod 496 comes in 3/4" and 1" only.

Can a screw on canister be used with the top/base if the clear canister breaks?

Thanks for your question, but no- the 470-3/4 top cap is only compatible with See-Thru filter bowls and the 470-5, 496-5, and 497-5 elements. In order to use a screw on canister, you would need a 570-1 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RGXY7E) or 570-3/4 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004MFCBTC) top cap.
