The switch is compact and simple and mounts directly on the door jamb. Only the power line (line feed) runs to the switch from the light to be controlled and back to it. The only thing that needs to be figured out is covering the two wires on there way to protect them. At the switch, one wire with a half inch of bare wire is inserted into the side of the switch and a screw tightens down on the bare wire. Same for the other wire. When the door opens and the switch button is released the switch is closed making contact with the two wires, sending power to the light. Very cleaver.
