Lonely Planet Greek Phrasebook & Dictionary

As a person of classical Greek background, I think the item really helps learning modern Greek.

This phrase book was indispensable on a recent trip to Greece. I love how it’s organized, and the pronunciation guides are very helpful. I think the Lonely Planet phrase books are the best out there and I will definitely buy more for future travels.

When I travel in Greece, this phrasebook lives in my bag/back pocket. I originally picked up a copy at a bookstore in Chania, but forgot it on a ferry. This copy is no different than my original.

Do not buy this book. I had one of the older editions of this book and sadly lost it. I purchased this 8th edition book to replace it. The new edition is riddled with spelling errors. I am an intermediate/advanced Greek speaker (not a native speaker) from a Greek family and have taken years of Greek language courses taught by native Greek speakers. I bought this book to brush up on my Greek. So sad to see all these spelling errors with this newer edition. Avoid!!! Examples of spelling mistakes: page 61 writes "βιαβατήριο" for passport, but the true word for passport is "διαβατήριο", and page 59, 66, and many others write the verb "to do" as "κάμει" but the true word is "κάνει". Plus many more. Buy a different book!!

Font is WAY too small to read, especially the pronunciation font which is blue. I should have heeded the reviews and not bought this!

Ridiculously small fonts. That is rather unfortunate considering it is a great book and format.

This book is waaaaaayyy too small, i cant read it even with my glasses, not represented properly on Amazon page.

Moeilijke taal. Moet er weer eens in gaan verdiepen. Gelukkig spreken ze daar ook goed Engels.

I like this compact book. It is divided to chapters by context (food, social, etc.), with different color indicator for each. The first chapter covers the Greek language basic grammar and I find it very useful especially when you learn to speak Greek.

I can already speak and read Greek so I am able to judge the quality of this book. it is excellent! So well put together. Also a dictionary to enhance your vocabulary. Very well designed sections on various topics that are a must to understand Greek culture and activities . If you are a complete beginner ,the phonetic letters are perfect, or if like me, you can read Greek competently, the book will suit both. Certainly worth every penny and a good quality, compact book that will fit into smaller hand luggage.

Heading to Greece and wife wants to learn, the PDF is a good companion

I purchased this because I need to learn Greek to move by. Tbh, I haven’t used it that much but the few times I’ve had, it has been quite useful. It’s pocket sized, great if you’re traveling and has very useful stuff that will def help you.
