Great knife. I am a Cold Steel fan because of the high quality, low price providing a great function that is a high value. Cold Steel has fantastic metallurgy and makes incredibly strong products. This knife takes an edge extremely easy and holds an edge much longer than you would expect. The grips provide fantastic grip whether hands are wet or dry. This knife has proven to be incredibly versatile in part by Cold Steel’s excellent execution on this product. I wish they made these in various sizes. This knife is an excellent value.

Outstanding camp and barbecue knife. Great steel for type of knife. Blade is hard enough to hold edge and still easy to sharpen. Handle has no hot spots and is comfortable for extended use. And having a sheath is fantastic! Not having to worry about where to set down your knife in a camp with kids running around is great. Liked it so much that I bought 4more to give to family and friends.

Knife 5.7 oz., sheath 1.6 oz.. Making a car camping kit. No thought, just load and go. I selected this, heavy duty, red handle knife, with sheath, because it was very similar (this blade 1 1/2 in. shorter) to the full size knife she uses most in the kitchen and it matches the red Victorinox folding paring knives. Very nice knife, cheap for what you get. Feels very light and nimble in hand. Tacky oversized handle that stays grippy when wet and slimy. Well thought out multi grip handle, including point down, edge forward, thumb on butt. Has no problem splitting out some kabob skewers or other camp craft. Two major problems. 1) The textured handle knurling wears off a little where the sheath clutches the handle. 2) This knife never left the kitchen, she "tried it out" then washed it and put it in the wooden knife block. I had to buy the black handled version to trade her for this red handle version for the car camping kit. Now I have a spare sheath in the junk drawer.

Good blade, sharp sheath is ok for a hard click in style

I bought it thinking it would be a good bushcraft knife. You could use it for that, but it does not seem like that's what it was designed for. It looks and feels like a very burley (and VERY sharp) overbuild kitchen knife. In reality it is something between an outdoors knife and a kitchen knife. I have several really good outdoors knives, so this one will go into the camp kitchen as the main kitchen knife. This is a fantastic and almost purpose built meat knife for processing game or prepping steaks or roasts or brisquet or ribs. It will live with my camp kitchen and grill/smoking gear for those occasions. Update, Sept. 2025: since purchasing this knife it has ended up in the kitchen. Not the camp kitchen, the real kitchen. It has pretty much replaced every nice kitchen knife we have. It gets used for everything—meat, veggies, cheese, you name it—and the only upkeep it has gotten is a light honing here and there. Truly a remarkable knife, I might get a couple more.

This is a fantastic knife, very sharp out of the package. The sheath is similar to a mora companion, and retains the knife well. I have several CS scalper knives, and they are identical to the Tim Wells version apart from handle color. Specifications online suggest a difference in length and weight but that is false, and both knives have the specs that are listed under this knife. The Tim Wells Slock Master Scalper is an awesome knife, but… you can save $5-$10 by getting the regular Commercial Series Scalper with the black handle, it’s an awesome knife too. The scalper is definitely one of my favorite knives, inexpensive and useful.

Great inexpensive knife! Comfortable non-slip handle. Blade is large but well balanced. Perfect knock around knife that has dependable Cold Steel solid performance. Wife likes it too for outside work, due to soft comfortable good grip and simple sheath.
