Does the unit stay on or automatically turn off after a certain amount of time?

Has a on/off switch but stays on only until you power down the quest once you turn it on.

can I use this with quest 1?

Yes. Both Quest 1 & 2 have four IR cameras built in to the headset, so this IR light would also work with it.

It says psvr2 in the heading, but not seeing anything in the specs. anyone know if it is compatible?

PSVR2 also uses Infrared cameras for tracking, so it's technically true. But as stated in the description page, you need to connect the illuminator to additional power bank, since PSVR2 doesn't have any USB-C port on its own. But I recommend to use other larger stand alone infrared illuminator for that use, since this product is rather weak in illumination compare to other larger products. It's good when it's used as an additional accessory, not as a stand alone illuminator.

can't see the battery level when the i2 IR light is plugged in, but the battery elite head strap does charge the quest2, the operation page can see the VR is charging and the battery power index
