The legendary Hotel Magnifique is like no other: a magical world of golden ceilings, enchanting soirées and fountains flowing with champagne. It changes location every night, stopping in each place only once a decade. When the Magnifique comes to her hometown, seventeen-year-old Jani hatches a plan to secure jobs there for herself and her younger sister, longing to escape their dreary life. Luck is on their side, and with a stroke of luminous ink on paper the sisters are swept into a life of adventure and opulence. But Jani soon begins to notice sinister spots in the hotel's decadent façade. Who is the shadowy maître who runs the hotel? And can the girls discover the true price paid by those who reside there - before it's too late? Review: An Honest Review! - The world-building is imaginative and immersive, drawing readers into a world of wonder and mystery. The characters are well-developed and engaging. Jani, the protagonist, is a relatable and determined character who grows throughout the story. Her journey of self-discovery and resilience is inspiring. The supporting cast, including the enigmatic Bel and the cunning maître d’hôtel, adds depth and complexity to the narrative. The pacing of the story is well-balanced, with moments of both slow-burn tension and fast-paced action. The author skillfully weaves together elements of mystery, romance, and coming-of-age, creating a captivating and unforgettable reading experience. Overall, Hotel Magnifique is a magical and enchanting tale that will delight readers of all ages. It’s a perfect escape into a world of wonder and imagination. Review: almost perfect - First of all finding a GOOD book is hard. Finding a hardcover of a good book for cheap is probably unheard of so i cant have any complaints. The tiniest bone that i have to pick is the the book was slightly damaged but its not very apparent, you can barely tell unless you look for it. Overall im very happy with it.

Magical.
4.4/5 The blurb suggests that this is for the fans of Caraval and The Night Circus and as someone who has read and loved both, I really wanted to read this one too. Now, after finishing it, I can see the similarities between the three books. But, this one is more darker than the other two and ofcourse the writing style is very different. The world building and the magic system is very interesting. I loved the whole idea of the artefacts and the hotel with its dazzling enchantments. I really liked Jani, our protagonist. But, I wished there were more scenes of her sister, Zosa. Also, I felt that the antagonist needed more scenes and conversations. Though he is mentioned several times in the book but he himself wasn't present in most part of the book. The ending chapters too felt rushed and the plot conflict resolved quite easily. I was expecting a little more action. Overall, I really enjoyed the whole book. It's definitely a bingeable read and I also loved the dark magical atmosphere it has.

Impressively Immersive World Building
For the majority of my reviews, I know how I’m going to rate the book before I finish the third chapter. But sometimes they surprise me and my internal star meter rises the more I read. This was one of those books. Here’s the blurb: Seventeen-year-old Jani and her younger sister Zosa are orphans, barely scraping by. When the Hotel Magnifique shows up in their town, a magical hotel that only appears about once every decade, Jani and her sister make sure they’re on hand. Jani doesn’t want to win one of the coveted invitations for a two-week stay, she wants to land a job for both of them. When Zosa is hired to entertain the guests, Jani also finagles her way in. But it doesn’t take long for her to realize that the Hotel isn’t all that it seems. Rather than being a safe place for suminaires to practice their magic, the maȋtre of Hotel Magnifique has his own agenda, which doesn’t bode well for anyone. This was one of the few fiction books that I bought this month. I’m pretty selective, since I drop a lot of coin on non-fiction books and I rarely read fiction more than once. However, this was comped to The Night Circus and I adored that novel, so I took a chance. It turned out to be money well spent. The story line and magical system that the author built around not only the Hotel but also the fictional countries where the Hotel traveled to every night was engrossing and enjoyable. The plot ran smoothly and I actually set aside another book to finish this one. So, all good. It wasn’t until about 75% of the way through the novel that I realized just how well planned the world building was. There is almost nothing that happens in this novel in the first half that doesn’t have some bearing on a discovery in the second half. I’m always happy for one “a ha” moment, but they kept coming. The amount of detail necessary to create this world astounded me. There were no throw-aways, not a single random event that didn’t play into the reveal. A reveal, I might add, that kept me engaged for several chapters. Add to that a cast of characters where again, nothing was wasted. Everyone played a part in both the plot and the world building, and I really liked them. If I’d read this as a teenager, I’d probably want to be Jani. I started with a good story and finished with a novel that was so immersive, I’m still thinking about it. I have to give this one five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Final thought is that I’d love to see this book adapted to the screen. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more by this author. I’m officially a fan.
