my kit did NOT contain brackets and hinges for creating the door.

Can this be used for a 8x8 gable shed

Technically, yes. But realize that the dimensions in the kit are optimized for maximizing the use of materials. For example, the walls use 4x8 sheets of wood. If you extend the spacing of wall studs to make your shed 8x8, it changes where the 4x8 sheets line up with the studs thus the nailing surface may not line up. You could nail the 4x8 sheets horizontally, but there again, it changes things. For me, I built a green house instead and used one kit to make a 10x12. Of course I did not use 4x8 wall sheets. I covered the structure with greenhouse plastic so stud placement did not matter. So technically, yes you can can make yours an 8x8. Just realize that the dynamics change when you do.

What is the height at peak

this was for a green house so I cut the sides to 7ft which gave me 10ft at the peak.

What size lumber did you use? Is it possible to use 2x6 lumber?

Yes you can use 2x6 or bigger but 2x4 is strong enough even in chicago with all the snow on the roof
