All you are really needing to do is guide the knife edge along the turning stone in a gentle slow manner. I use mine in a restaurant environment and while it doesn't quite give the "new" edge, It does a pretty good job. **Q: Will it sharpen scissors** A: Depends on the thickness of the blade of the scissors.
