I usually use a surf rod when striper fishing from shore or a jetty but when I’m in a pier mostly site fishing, I like a bass fishing rod because of the shorter butt. It allows me to handle the rod better and feels more like an extension of my arm. This rod is very durable, well designed and for the price, you cannot beat it! I love the lure keeper, the guides are solid, the cork feels like good quality and it’s handled a bunch of stripes ranging from 2-9lbs. Of course I use a drop net for the larger ones but I’ve been able to reel up then pier flip the smaller ones no issue. I bought the 7ft medium heavy and I couldn’t ask for more. I actually bought this rod because the 7ft medium heavy Abu Garcia Max SX I was using for this same type of fishing broke when I was casting a 1oz casting metal too hard. I was sad because I loved that combo but when this one arrived and I saw it had two tip sections, I tried fitting the extra tip on my broken Abu and it fit!!
