Review: Funny with utterly gorgeous illustrations - This book is beautiful, and such a lovely addition to my granddaughterโs library. She is three and a half and had her parents read it to her multiple times the day it arrived. I am a horsewoman and want to make a horsey-connection with her. The book is suitable for younger children but will be a pleasure for years. The illustrations along with the funny theme make this book a winner. Review: Lovely book - Beautiful illustrations and high quality hard cover book. Great gift!

Fun story using the gift of imagination
Was a birthday request for my 4 year old granddaughter who saw it at the library . As time goes on will be the test if she continues reading as a favorite or it becomes her sisters favorite โก As an adult reviewing, it is an intriguing story & easy to follow. A fun, creative- thinking - use your imagination book- the wonder of childhood. I would purchase again as a gift .

Fun illustrations! Fun story ideas ... Too few words
I really enjoy Sophie Blackall's books. My favorite is Hello, Lighthouse! I got that one when my daughter was 4 while we were on vacation to a place with a lighthouse. We also enjoy her Farmhouse title, though perhaps the story telling in that one wasn't as great as I'd prefer, either. Anyway, I purchased If I Was a Horse because it was released very close to my girl's 7th birthday. How fun! I was disappointed in the story, though. It really isn't a story. It is a portion of a sentence on each page. It's one of those children's story books where describing it takes longer than reading it. My daughter enjoyed it, but it was hard to read because sentences were broken up between page turns, and we couldn't really enjoy the illustrations while reading. Perhaps this one is meant for younger listeners. The illustrations tell the story in a fun way, though, that allows non-readers to be in on the story with a simple flip through. So...if your 4-6 year old loves horses, they would like the actual story storyline of this book. If you are a fan of books with lovely illustrations, this is a nice option. I will admit I am disappointed and likely would not have purchased this to add to our personal library if I had first met it at our public library. It's worth a read and browsing, but I don't think it will be something we are recommending in 20 years.
