## Questions & Answers

**Q: I am wodering, has anyone used this on an acoustic cello? i wonder if this will pickup the lower sounds**
A: I suggest using a guitar pedal eq (or some other type of preamp) before you go to the mixer. This will boost the signal and the pickups tone. I am currently using this on a mandolin. It sounds very natural. I have tried this on a cello, it was plenty fat. I think with the eq you will get a good sound. You can't beat the price. You could even get crazy, buy 2 pickups and 2 eq's and put 1 in the F-hole and 1 on the bridge???

**Q: I installed this on my violin and plugged it into my amp (which I re-tested with my guitar to be sure) and got no sound. User error or defective?**
A: Sounds defective; return it. I've bought several of these and they just work. Design is pretty simple and not much to go wrong. Actually the main problem is the plastic loop that tends to break after a year or two.

**Q: Since this pickup is made for a violin, I assume it would also work for a mandolin with f-holes. But what about an oval-hole mandolin?**
A: It absolutely would work, but you might want to use one of their regular guitar pickups for that. The clip on this is extremely slender-to fit through the f-hole-, and so doesn't keep the pickup in place as well as the fatter clip on their standard guitar pickup. The frequency response on the regular guitar pickup is quite good, so if I were looking for an oval mandolin pickup, I would go for the one with the fatter clip.

**Q: Is this supposed to have foam or padding on the bottom? Mine doesn't and no matter where I place it I am getting a lot of distortion.**
A: Mine has a thin black rubber pad (harder than foam) on the bottom of the round microphone, and I have not experienced distortion. I find the best fidelity by clipping it in the bottom F sound hole (one nearest the E string) and in the end of the hole nearest the tail piece.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars

A bit harsh, but it does the job

*by T***1 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2014*

I bought this for use with a cello and I clipped it inside one of the sound holes. It picks up well and can be amplified without undue feedback problems, but is quite harsh sounding. It's just about what I expected from a cheap piezo pickup, as there was no way I'd spend £300+ on a professional cello mic. If you want to amplify a solo cellist for an important concert or recording then you should really be looking at buying or hiring a much better mic, but for use within a band or amateur orchestra where just a bit of amplification is needed, you can't really beat the price/performance on offer here.

    A temporary solution

*by I***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2015*

It does get the sound to an amplifier, but it's a bit raspy. To be expected at this price. It's also subject to a lot of interference, if you are playing with other instruments, causing a bit of feedback at times. It's okay as a temporary solution, but not a good idea for concert work.

    Does the job well

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2013*

At the price this isn't going to be the most sonically accurate pickup out there, but for an easy, cheap device that picks up and amplifies the bulk of the sound, it does so extremely well. I now have two of these that see weekly use (had one for a couple of years) and both still work just as well as when I bought them.
