Brasso Metal Polish Wadding, 75g

I bought this to keep in my plumbing box (for polishing up copper pipe after soldering). It was great value for money, I got it on a deal. Easy to use, just rip off a piece and go at it and it leaves a super nice finish. The retro look of the can is also funky. Size wise will last a while as well.

As shown in the pictures, Brasso has improved the condition of my old compass after just one application. The surface looks brighter and cleaner. However, it is more difficult to use on areas that are complicated to reach because the wadding breaks down quickly into small pieces and tends to get stuck. Even so, the compass already looks much better than before. I will certainly need to repeat the application, but I prefer to wait until the weather is warmer because using it indoors is problematic due to the fumes and when I polished the compass outside in the garden my fingers became stiff and I felt cold. Overall, Brasso is a good product, but there are some important points to keep in mind. It should not be used indoors because of the fumes. There is also an environmental factor since the wadding is soaked with chemicals and must be handled with care. Gloves are essential, ideally disposable ones. Finally, the wadding falls apart quickly and becomes less useful. For smooth surfaces it works well, but for my compass with all its small details it is more challenging.

For more fiddly hard to reach areas brass things use the brasso liquid with brushes, cotton buds, toothbrush, paint brush etc. it does exactly what you'd expect, with very little effort. I recommend Brasso wadding, its like cotton wool soak in brasso liquid, does not scratch the metal. It neutralises all tarnish or discolouration.

Exactly as it says on the tin. I used it on a few brass items so far and its made a massive difference. I've a took a picture of before and after of a brass cow. Also took a picture of a dolphin which was really dull before and has a sticker mark which had been there years, its made that disappear and is so shiny. Great value for money, good sized amount in the tin. Not sure how long it lasts yet but happy so far and would recommend to anyone that needs to give some metal a new lease of life! Very easy to use, only takes a few minutes.

I found this worked really well on my brass candlesticks. However, it was very different to my old can of Brasso wadding. Firstly, the smell which hit me was dreadful - strong ammonia which took my breath away. Second, I was unable to just tear a piece of wadding away, it was encased in a thin paperlike material and I had to cut a piece off with scissors. Thirdly, the wadding was shredded bits of something which just fell apart when used. I would not purchase it again.

Bought this to polish up an ornamental hunting knife. It has brass inserts which tarnished and went green after being stored in a leather sheath for too long. The polish done a good enough job, the knife is shiny again. The only downside is that the product does have a horrible smell and needs to be used in a well ventilated area with gloves
