Must have
A Game-Changer for Home Bread Makers! As someone new to bread making with a machine, slicing the loaf evenly was a real struggle—especially with softer, fresh-baked bread. I tried various slicing gadgets, including some vertical slicers, but none gave consistent results. Then I came across the SimpleSlice, and what a difference it has made! This is honestly one of the most useful kitchen tools I’ve bought. The design is minimalist but incredibly effective. It offers three adjustable slice widths, so I can get perfectly even slices every time—whether for toast or sandwiches. It also has a clever edge stopper and safety features that allow you to slice down to the last piece without worrying about your fingers. Made of sturdy steel, it feels built to last, and it doesn’t take up much space when stored. I do use a non-slip mat underneath just to keep it stable while cutting, but that’s a small thing. My only tiny wish is for a built-in crumb catcher—but it’s easy enough to clean up afterwards. All in all, this has made slicing homemade bread effortless and enjoyable. If you bake your own bread, don’t hesitate—this tool is a must-have!

Simple and it works
What a good idea! I've been using a Lakeland bread slicing guide for some years now, and never felt it quite fitted the bill - lots of crevices to trap crumbs, so not easy to clean, and the loaf didn't quite fit, so had to be squashed a bit to go in. So far, this one is just the job - there's plenty of room for my loaf, and the non-slip feet hold it securely in place. Since the bread is sliced horizontally, it took a little bit of getting used to, but is far more satisfactory than my old slicing guide. The bread can also be sliced whilst still hot. I've only had it a couple of weeks, so these are first impressions. It remains to be seen if the non-slip feet stay non-slip, and I'm not sure how useful the white plastic end stop is - I've tried it with and without, and think I prefer without. It puts more crumbs on the floor than the old slicing guide, but that's not really an issue, and there's no cleaning instructions - I assume hand wash only, but it would be nice to know, although it's easy enough to brush the crumbs off with a cloth after use. I like the way it stores in the cupboard on one side, taking up very little space. I do have an extra long bread knife, which I think makes slicing easier, and I'd also recommend watching the instruction video.

Good, cuts bread well and simple to use
I have been using this now for some considerable time and here is what I have discovered. Watch a video on YouTube to see how it works as the one I had, had no instructions. There are a few minor issues: Cutting heavier home made breads regularly, does eventually deform the guides somewhat and they do not bend back. This does make the slices slightly uneven, but the Simpleslice is well made enough to cope with this and does not feel like it will break. Make sure you have a long bread Knife and it is not too serrated. Finally, I have found it is easier to slice almost all the way through the bread, then flip the loaf up to do the final cut upright to stop the bread breaking up, especially with bread a few days old.

Really good slicing guide
This is brilliant. I have just wiped my fingers clean from eating a slice of home made bread, sliced to perfection in this guide. It arrived so quickly, and I was a bit nervous before using it, having read the Q&A's and the reviews, not all favourable. But glad I took the plunge. It is so well designed, and reminds me of the sort of simple workbench jigs made to keep things from slipping off the edge (I'm guessing it was designed by a joiner or other craftsman). This does just that, with the offset shape allowing the overhang to keep it all steady. It does not slip, or slide about, and the coated metal feels sturdy and strong. Nor is it very big, important if you have a small kitchen, so will store away easily with my chopping boards. Now I've used it - and my knife does fit, as I rather thought it would - and seen how well it works, it confirms my decision was correct to buy this and not another type (wood and steel, but fixed width slices, so no good for us) The ease with which you can slice thinly is just great, and the thick slices keep my hubby happy. A winner. And if you remove the handy white bread board, there is another size of slice to be had. Some people mentioned that the guide sides distorted after use; maybe they are being too rough with it? Don't rush, and let the knife just slide through, really easy - I can see this is going to be the start of a long relationship!

3 Fixed Slots for bread depth
I really, really liked this product. I had been looking for something like this to prevent our slicing "artisan" bread as wedges rather than slices (using a conventional bread board). My family has been using this slicer successfully for months now! I bought the recommended knife too - which is really, really sharp. The slicer has three fixed slice slots - evenly fitting the knife across the bottom slots gives the equivalent of "thin" bread slices in a pre-sliced load, the next one up "medium" slices and the top "thick" slices. I found it best to slice a bagel using a diagonal cut - e.g bottom slice one side, top (or middle) on the other side to cut it evenly. The instructions (on the vendor's website) do advise cutting large artisan bread in half, so that you have a starting point for using the slicer. This is useful for getting into rounded ended artisan bread. We've used it successfully with artisan bread from our local independent bakery and also with Tesco "bakery" unsliced bread. Both work well, after first being cut in half. The white baseboard can go in the dishwasher, and can also be used to slide the bread along the guides, rather than sliding the knife along. I found a diagonal cut pressing the flat end of the bread against the guides had the best cutting action. I only have one very minor minor criticism. When the artisan bread has been left out for a while and has got really quite hard, the slice still works, but you can hear the knife struggling in the slot and could cause damage to the slots if handled really roughly. All in all - a really good buy!

5 stars to start but hasn't last 2 years.
I have used this since October 2023. Cutting a loaf about 1 a week. . All Started fine and the it deformed. See photo. So it's been used for 17 months and has cut about 80 -90 loaves. The cutting guides seem just to thin. And that's not a lot of bread really . For the money though I might be tempted to buy another and replace bit in about 15 months time again.

Simple very effective gadget, robust design, easy to store
Fantastic piece of kit, makes slicing bread so simple and so safe down to the last slice. Such a simple gadget yet so effective, I’ve never been too good at cutting straight slices of bread or getting the thicknesses right….this gadget allows you to select three thicknesses of bread, it has a safety feature which means you can slice down to the last piece of bread without cutting your hand. It contains a small bread board and catches crumbs, I love that it’s very simple in design and easy to store. Nothing negative to say about it - very robust, made of steel so it’s never going to break,

Genius! Worth every penny.
1 STAR 2025 UPDATE: The metal bars have bent and warped over time, making the slices uneven. In hindsight, maybe a wood or plastic one would have been better. I really, REALLY wanted to like this. I loved the product and the quality, I argued with my better half about it for YEARS and I fought in its corner.... Eventually, even I couldn't save it from the moaning, because I have to agree - it didn't last, the metal did bend, and it is now impossible to get a good slice. Only one guide works still as the others are warped, and the one that's left is also bent. FOR THE MANUFACTURER: I hate to leave criticism of a hand designed product from such a small company without some constructive criticism. I LOVED your product, and still would, if the guides still lined up. If you could somehow thicken the metal in an affordable way, it may last longer. Also, just a suggestion - we don't use any plastic in our house any more after learning about how dangerous it is when microplastics come off things, especially cutting boards. It may be nice to offer a different version with wood instead for those of us that avoid plastic like we were raised at a tupperware party. ORIGINAL 5 STAR REVIEW: Having spent hours trawling through reviews and online shops looking for a bread slicer that genuinely works, I settled on this one. It's expensive, but the age old saying of 'You buy cheap, you buy twice' kept ringing in my ears. I had a go on a homemade loaf of Brioche which is once of the softest and crumbliest loaves that I have ever made, and it whizzed through it like it was no problem at all. Two of the slices I did had holes in them, but I think that was probably down to human error of letting the knife travel away from the guide, or I was cutting the delicate Brioche too thin for the soft loaf to handle. Some tips: ---Listen when they say to move the bread along the board as you near the edge. Metal + knife = blunt knife and a nasty sound. Also, if you continuously get the edge of the metal with such a sharp serrated knife, you could chip off the coating/paint and end up with it rusting. In fairness, that's nothing that a little dab of Hammerite wouldn't fix anyway, such is the beauty of painted black metal. ---Make sure you have a bread knife long enough. I own several 'Worlds Sharpest Knives' which are all purpose serrated and fluted blades, and they did the job lovely, only slipping out twice. ---Hold the bread either to the front or the back if your loaf isn't the exact width of the Simpleslice to stop it moving whilst you are cutting it. Goes without saying to cut the loaf in half before you start. ---Don't cut anything on the included bread board, it's plastic and it will mark and end up looking nasty and dirty. It's only really there to catch crumbs and enable you to empty them off the Simpleslice easily. If you really want to use it, use only one side for cutting, then you can flip it over so you can't see it when it's stored in the Simpleslice and use the smooth side for laying loaves on. ---Cut from the top of the loaf (The soft bit of the crust) first, as I have found that if you start from the bottom it will tear up the top, but the bottom of the loaf is tough enough to withstand being cut from inside to out. I hope that made sense! ---The thin slices are not so great for delicate soft crumbed bread, it worked on my Brioche loaf, but as I mentioned I did end up with holes in two slices, although as I also mentioned, that could have just been down to human error. This is worth EVERY penny. This thing is heavy cast metal and will last a lifetime if cared for properly. It's also made in Britain which is lovely to see when most things come from China these days. I am very impressed with this. I was slightly nervous spending that much on a bread slicing guide of all things, but I do not regret it at all now I have seen it and tried it. No longer will I dread the uneven tapered doorstop wedges that automatically came with homemade bread. Don't fear the stupid amount of money you are going to spend on a bread slicing guide. This thing is the answer to all bread machine owners prayers! I can't recommend this enough!
