It's a huge mahogany wood panel bed, so I am just doing it bit at a time, starting with the dirty sections. It looks better already - better clean wood than grimy chalk paint - so just looks like a real shabby chic job or maybe a work in progress. Paint some on, I'm not using the spray, go do something else, come back, paint another coat on, go do some more something elses, then come back and scrape the paint off. It is less caustic than some other paint strippers, so might take a few applications, and the brass would most likely need polishing after. I haven't used it for removing paint from metal though, but I do think it's well worth giving it a go. **Q: How affective is this at getting varnish off wood?** A: It is going to depend on the varnish. Old varnish should be no problem, but some of the recent polyurethane varnishes may be more difficult.
