Now that I have your attention, I would say it’s very generic but of high-quality and seems to perform well with various materials when strike against. It’s about the right size to pack away, not heavy, a fun way to start a fire or an excellent way to find your inner anger with all things so be sure it’s not your on method of starting a fire ;)

good striker, nice price. I was able to spark some char cloth with it but it was NOT EASY to get it going. I think I did not prepare my tinder enough before striking it. I will need to try it again. I used this and a piece of quarts (American flint) to produce a spark. but again this is not as easy as a ferro rod or lighter, but if you know what you are doing I think you can make it work. I gave 4 stars because the striker took some damage from the quarts rock, and I think it may not be as hard as it is supposed to be, but I am not sure. anyway, good product, and I will keep playing with it.

When it comes to fire starting there is no substitute for a solid flint and steel kit and the knowledge to use it properly. This striker came exactly as described and is a wonderful addition to and fire kit. It feels great in hand and throws a wonderful spark. Dont hesitate to order this you wont regret it.

This is a great buy. It performs as a high quality steel striker should. And is sold and guaranteed by honest decent merchants. I am proud to have purchased one. It is with me always now. I used it to start a fire in my Big Green Egg to grill some steaks. I am gonna have to buy another though because my wife saw me use it. Now she wants one too! Everyone who sees me use it ask for one. I recommend it without hesitation.

Super cheap. Perhaps the striker portion is high carbon steel but the rest appears to be zinc or some other cheap alloy. Broke in half day one.

The Fire Steel was artistically and finely crafted from an aesthetic rating, however from a functional rating this Fire Steel was almost ineffective in producing a spark when struck against a piece of flint, whereas the number of sparks were few and it took many strikes to even achieve a spark, the size of the sparks were small and would burn out before they would come in contact with the char. I verified this by using several other Fire Steels for comparison

Ordered this to learn how to start a fire without matches. I have a lump of chert here, and was able to get some good big sparks with it. I made up some char cloth, (cotton muslin, in a quart paint can, sealed up and placed on hot coals for a few minutes), and with a little practice, was able to get the char cloth glowing. From there, it's a matter of blowing REALLY hard and finding the right tinder (curls of cedar wood, from a sharp block plane, work well.)Trouble is, it broke, after the second day (I'm guessing, after maybe a hundred strikes or so?) I was still able to make sparks with the larger, broken piece; but then that broke too.Good news is, I went on Amazon, and with a few clicks, ordered a replacement, arriving in 48 hours, at no cost (as long as I mail the broken one back to them, using the free printable return label.)So, maybe the tempering on this one was off? But I'm happy overall. Good service, cool tool.

A very sturdy steel with a very nice finish, the jute bag is also a nice touch. I can't wait to get out and make some sparks. Only reminder for purchasers is it does not come with a piece of flint.

It does produce sparks that can produce an ember in char cloth so it does what it claims. It did take a lot longer to arrive than the advertised time which is why I’ve dropped it down to four stars.
